MOSCOW, November 25 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Viktor Yanukovich on being elected president of Ukraine, reports the Kremlin press office.
Mr. Putin's message of congratulations, in particular, reads as follows:
"I congratulate you on being elected President of Ukraine.
"The Ukrainian people made their choice which is the choice for stability, stronger statehood and the further development of democratic and economic reforms. The majority of Ukrainians supported your intention to develop good-neighborly and multifaceted cooperation with Russia, all CIS members and other countries of Europe and the world.
"Russia and Ukraine are enjoying every possibility of raising their strategic cooperation to a higher level. The citizens of our countries who are linked by common historical and cultural ties are, thereby, becoming even closer to each other.
"The emerging Common Economic Space is gaining momentum. Realizing its potential has yielded good results already and it is promoting an increasingly more impressive commodity turnover and is providing new opportunities for the peoples of Russia and Ukraine. Our countries are parties to major international projects in the sphere of outer space, energy, aircraft building and transport. By joining our efforts we can do a lot to ensure European and international security and build a united, prosperous Europe.
"I appreciate your resolve to maintain cooperation in specific spheres and I am pleased to note the helpful contacts we have developed. Our further intensive dialogue will, undoubtedly, promote bilateral cooperation for the good of the two fraternal nations."
The other canidate who lost is a Socialist Demorat. I trust Colin Powell as much as Kofi Annan and Jimmy Carter.
I would not bet that Russia is really so close ally of the US.... That is true that they have similar interest in defeating terrorism... But that's about it...
Otherwise why would he had suggested a month ago to change the oil payment from Dollar to Euro ?
I think Russia will side with those who will allow them the closest definition of Superpower.
If things gets worse between the US and EU, the EU will easily make a deal with Russia to tread the Eu technology and goods for Russian military power... And I do not think that would be an offer the Russians easily would turn down...
Russia's best path to power is as a friend of the US. Whether they realize it or not, it's better to stand beside the US than against the US. We're the only ones who do not believe prosperity is a zero sum game.
Er, isn't that technically the "Great Game"? Author, Ziggy Brzezinski.
I will try to 'splain the news item:
>>MOSCOW, November 25 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Viktor Yanukovich on being elected president of Ukraine, reports the Kremlin press office. <<
Russians and Yanukovych "team" spent tremendous efforts and resources on trying to tilt the elections in favor of Yanukovich, who is the lap dog of Putin and his Russian compadres now trying to rebuilt the old soviet empire under new name. They hired US PR firms, had Yanukovych to speak at Press Club spreading the false image of "moderate reformer". With his congratulations Putin is trying to legitimize the faudulent elections.

Read: Yipeeee, we managed to falsify the elections and get our guy in, he is the guarantee that Ukraine will be brought back to our "CIS members" family of old soviet empire which we hope to resurect after the little "freedom hickup". "Multifaceted cooperation with Russia" is nothing more than more sucking up Ukraine's resources and integration back to the empire.
>>"Russia and Ukraine are enjoying every possibility of raising their strategic cooperation to a higher level. The citizens of our countries who are linked by common historical and cultural ties are, thereby, becoming even closer to each other. <<
"Strategic cooperation" means buffer from "evil" Europe and source of cheap labor and resources, mainly agriculture and intelectual power. Historical and cultural ties NOT, Ukrainians are Europeans, Russians are Asiats, different mentality, culture (Ukrainian much older, christian). Ukrainians want to be closer to Europe than Russians, they had enough of commissars, drinking vodka and giving orders, taking bribes and being rulers. Look at the pictures of mass demonstartions against falsified, hijacked elections to see how Ukrainians long to be "closer to each other" NOT!
>>"The emerging Common Economic Space is gaining momentum. "Joining efforts" means we will suck you as before and expand our borders, while keeping you on a short leash. yea, Putin is going to build "united and prosperous Europe" just like they built the "paradise" known as Soviet Union, where people had no freedom, miserable economic conditions. Putin can not shake his old KGB mentality off and he is doing his best to resurect the old empire. Just like DemocRATs here, they are having hard time to be on the sidelines, they miss the bossing around, bribes and rattling their sabres.
>>"I appreciate your resolve to maintain cooperation in specific spheres and I am pleased to note the helpful contacts we have developed. Our further intensive dialogue will, undoubtedly, promote bilateral cooperation for the good of the two fraternal nations."<<
He can see the "resolve to maintain cooperation" in the streets of Kyiv and other cities. People are freezing their butts off and demonstarting against Russian rigged, falsified elections trying to force their criminal candidate to become president of Ukraine and do a "further intensive dialogue" - more like "our administrator of Ukraine".
This is as critical time in Ukraine as it was in USA few days ago. US clearly resisted the RATs machine to steal the elections. Ukraine did not have the luxury of sufficient independent observers at the polling places and commies managed to bribe, cheat, intimidate people mainly in eastern Ukraine to "outvote" the Yushchenko. Massive fraud was reported, people were bribed, ordered by factory bosses and school administrators to cast their vote for Yanukovych. Absentee ballots were stuffed in favor of Yanukovych, often more than population in the town. In US we were foprtunate to have both sides monitoring the polling places, no such thing in Eastern Ukraine.
It is a shame that American press is not reporting the full extent of what is going on Ukraine now. There mass demonstrations, people are fired up, just like in 1990 when they broke the Soviet empire. Weather is terrible there, freezing rain, cold, lack of supplies and warm clothing. People are helping demonstrators, organizing busses, car pools, most of the military and police are helping to keep things calm and organized, trying to avoid provocateurs.
Yushchenko is to be admired, after what they have done to him with poisoning and all the obstacles he had to face, he would be true savior of Ukraine, civilized Eu world and friend of US among the hostile Euroweenies to the west and bolsheviks to the east. They deserve our support in this critical time.
Commies are busing some "blue" demonstrators to Kyiv, but they have no conviction, stamina nor will to stay there. After talking to "Orange" kids and seeing the mass uprising against the Yanukovych/Putin machinery, they are packing it or joining the "oranges".
Putin can stuff his "congratulations", Ukrainians will not take it, they will not accept the false prophet. They had enough of dressed up commies as "democrats", saw their "reform" and are determined to take affairs in their own hands, without big brother telling them what to do.
Slava Ukraini! Pray for them!!
Fox, CNN, MSM where are you? Did Putin put a gag order on you? Official government controlled radio and TV stations in Ukraine have their "regular" programming going, showing ballet and crap how smooth everything is. Private stations are running information service and helping to coordinate the demonstrations, passing info from around the country.

You right as long Russia is happy with being the second best and do what the US allows to them...
But allied with EU it can see itself as a superpower again... I do not think that Russia ever lost its ambitions for that.
It is not an accident that Russia wants Ukraine on board again.
And they not made their new missile defence system against the EU either...
This was all written long ago by Ziggy Brzezinski as a way to destroy Russia using NATO and westernization.
Hey what do I know, I'm just graced with a big mouth, and an opinion on everything. I really don't know anyone personally involved, so I can't speak for them. I can just tell it the way I see it half the world away with what I'll admit is rather limited information.
Happy Thanksgiving. To both sides supporters. May we not see what we each fear from the other side. May we not see the destructions of morals and abandonement in the war on terror, or on the other side the strengthening of the soviets.
