This is not a threat just look how russia after WWII got bunch of democratic contries to be it's colonies -
Ukraine, Litva, Latvia, Estonia, Romeniya, Moldova, Poland, Hungary, Chehoslovakiya, Germany, Bulgaria etc..

Do you think KGB going to be nice this time around?
Putin already spend 30% of his budget on military, what he builds fot 2005? MORE NUKES!

I have to say, I'm grateful in a way for this Ukrainian crisis. It has certainly awakened me to something that I had been ignoring or avoiding for far too long.

I don't think Putin will succeed here. Furthermore, I think he has overplayed his hand. There are a lot more people around the world today who are asking themselves what this man is really up to...

Yuschchenko already promised he would withdraw Ukraine's 1600 troops...

So most of FR roots for him.

But there does seem to be a consensus that the election was stolen. Was it?

I think its wat too early to tell if this was "stolen", there should be some credible evidence to back that claim up, which I have not seen.

What I have seen is the usual Soros backed subversive "the election was stolen, lets march on the capitol" business he used sucessfully in former soviet Georgia and almost successfully in the USA.

Saying Yushchenko is "pro western" is fine as long as one remembers that he is a socialist who sides with fellow socialist Kerry and the Democrats vison for a socialist and weak America in the world.

Socialist candidate backs Yushchenko

Kiev, Ukraine, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Ukrainian Socialist leader Oleksandr Moroz Saturday agreed to support pro-American Vikor Yushchenko in the Nov. 21 presidential election run-off.

Moroz and Yushchenko signed an agreement in Kiev Saturday, Interfax-Ukraine news agency reported.

Moroz, finished third in the first round of the Ukrainian presidential election Oct. 31 behind Yushchenko and Prime Minister Viktor Yahukovych, who is the preferred candidate of incumbent Leonid Kuchma and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The political executive committee of the Socialist Party of Ukraine decided to sign an agreement with Yushchenko on backing him, Alexander Zinchenko told Itar-Tass news agency. Moroz and SPU activists will be taking part in Yushchenko's campaign, according to Yushchenko's associates.

Moroz's support could be decisive for Yushchenko, who has been running strongly. In the first round, he won 5.8 percent of the vote. Yanukoyvych narrowly led Yushchenko with 39.9 percent compared with 39.2 percent.

I found another article, which says that the charges of fraud are based on EXIT poll data.

Based on exit polls, Kerry should be our new president, and we should have a civil war in the US. I guess there is no point in having real polls, lets just have a few exit polls, and let that determine who wins. (sarcasm, of course)

" Exit polls, conducted by anonymous questionnaires under a program funded by several Western governments, including the United States, has said earlier that the Western-leaning candidateYushchenko led with 54 percent of the vote and Yanukovich trailed with 43 percent. "

Russian Special Forces are some of the best in the world. Just ask the Terrorists who took over a theater a while back.

Not to rain on the Spetznaz parade, but SOF units con't hold a country the size of the Ukraine, no matter how good they are. Chechnya showed that SOF can spank people all day long, but if you don't have a competent regular Army to back you up, you'll never make any progress.

Russia don't have a competent regular Army. Trying to invade the Ukraine at this point could make Chechnya look like a stroll through the park. If there is widespread resistance or civil war, the Russians would be insane to stick their heads into it.

Kerry had the backing of George Soros.

Yushechenko is the Ukranian Jon Queri.

Ultimately, whether the Ukraine is run by either of these people is not really important.

Letting Soros pull off another coup is.

He really screwed up this time, messing with the KGB.

He would be wise to keep a low profile.

If their only evidence of fraud is exit polls then any blood that is spilled is directly on the hands of George Soros and the leftist press.

Yuschchenko already promised he would withdraw Ukraine's 1600 troops...

So most of FR roots for him.

The Ukraine's troops are the Ukraine's business. We don't need friends like Yanukovich any more than we need friends like Putin. Or are we into supporting friendly dictators over unhelpful democracies now?

Probably a typo. Or else it's Kerry's budget math. One hundred, not one thousand. We accomplished a lot with a hundred in Afghanistan.

No, the problem is that it is simply propaganda to steal the election. There were more than 100 in Afghanistan. Additionally, SF are not suited for the mission of going into Kiev to protect the government.

Hi Pete! I saw your homepage. :)

True, my wife's nephew is Spetznaz, and just left last week for his fourth tour in Chechnya, and both he and myself would agree 100% with you.

It is your view that it is propaganda.

It is Powell's that the election was stolen.

I am aware we had more than one hundred in Afghanistan.

I don't think Powell and Lugar are easily swayed.

And they've made exceptionally strong statements.

Not counting exit polls taken in the Western part of the country what is your evidence the election was stolen? I would ask Powell the same question.
