The imams know the danger of losing control over the next generation.

Much has been made about how the 9/11 hijackers partied, drank alcohol, consorted with women and then went off to jihad.

It was explained to me from a Christian born Syria that after some of these people live in the west for a while and enjoy the decadence of our society they are more susceptible to being radicalized.

The imams get a hold of them and lay on a huge guilt trip. In other religions if you sin you ask God for forgiveness, repent and you are good to go. In Islam, Allah is not so forgiving, actions are all that count.

Thus, one act of jihad can wipe away a lifetime sin and decadence.

It’s a sad facet of this situation, but an important element of understand how their minds work and what can lead well educated, seemingly westernized moderate to despicable acts of hatred.

I read you loud and clear. This might be one of the reasons why so many converts to islam are from the prison population and numerous 'drop-kicks' (aussie expression) anti-socials and anarchists living on welfare, are prepared to enlist and carry out violent acts against their own society.

We have one locked up in gaol, married to an Indonesian woman, who admitted to various terror plots and visits to Bin Laden in Afghanistan. A migrant from Britain, he was planning an attack on the 2000 Olympic Games.

More recently, bail has been refused for 'Jihad Jack' who is awaiting sentence. Also married to an Indonesian woman. Same MO. Sold his soul for money and airplane tickets to visit with jihad big-wigs overseas. Yes, islam attracts the most foul, 'useful idiots' who would kill their own kin.

But meanwhile, islam loses its own children. The guilt-trips don't work with young folk who go to school with 'kuffar' children. They grow up and want to marry 'kuffar' people...and islam can't kill them all under the guise of 'honour killing' or accusations of apostasy. The clerics are very concerned.

This isn't an answer to what ails us as we attempt to live with these people...or convince our governments we want no more mooselimb immigration...but it's a good start. IMO.

As to 'what can lead well educated, seemingly westernized moderate to despicable acts of hatred' that's something that has fascinated me for a long time.Even after 20 years in a country, financially successful folk who have everything to lose, chose to leave their family behind, and become jihadi's. Sometimes I wonder if allah, paradise and virgins or 'forgiveness for sins' has anything to do with it at all. The opportunity to be seen as a 'warrior' by ones peers and the promise of travel etc...might just be less boring and more macho than going to work?
