They have seaports, nukeyerler scientists, damn good pilots for decent fighers, are deeply religious (some) and hate the russkies. Sounds like folks we want to court.

Ok, assuming you are in this august group, how about enlightening us immature, ignorant chuckleheads, in a few words, what this all means.

Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma (L) talks to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin (news - web sites) (C) while Ukrainian Prime Minister and presidential candidate Viktor Yanukovich looks on during a military parade in Kiev, October 28, 2004. Putin stood beside Ukraine's pro-Moscow presidential hopeful to review a Soviet-style military spectacle, just days before a tense vote seen as a choice between closer ties with Russia or the West.

You left off a couple of choice:

Don't like the UN or the Eu or George Soros' candidates here in the USA or the Ukraine.

Don't care a whit about Putin's guy either.

That is where I stand. I Don't see a dollar's worth difference in either crook. And, I live in the USA, voted for BUSH and am NOT a Ukraine-American or a Russian-American either. Just a really old coot from Maine who happens to be a Baptist.

That is a good question and is debatable. The one thing we do know is that Putin is trying his best with the aid of the Russian mob to alter the results of the election. Much of this started last night when Dick Morris stated there was massive election fraud. Morris was a consultant for Yushchenko before the election. He said they were not allowed to buy tv ad time or newspaper ads and had to get their message out with weakly leaflets. According to Morris their exit polls showed that Yushchenko won by a good margin. That's part of the story anyway.

Yes, these are some of the reasons.

The isolationist, know-nothing quality of some FReep posts about this is disgusting.

Who really cares about the Ukraine???

Europe largest country, fighting for freedom and divorce from Russia and Putin's new empire. Potentially the best ally for US wedged between Euroweenies and Ruskies.

It's a clash between Western values and authoritarianism.
In such an important part of the world, we need to stand with the Western values.

W and Soros are on the same side of this issue. Global politics makes strange bedfellows. I'll go with Bush. You can go with Putin.
