This fool buys the Muslim excuses for terrorism hook, line, and sinker.

He's touting the "root causes" line, forgetting that Muslims have been terrorizing each other for 1,400 years.

He says no one wants to kill 1.4 million muslims.

I hate it when people try to speak for me.

I wish I could find the article that dispells the "poverty=terror" myth. The article I'm referring to researched terrorism over the last couple of decades and the ONE thing in common with regions that breed terror was not economic but political. The research found that the root causes of terrorism are non-democratic dictatorial regimes.

The research found that the root causes of terrorism are non-democratic dictatorial regimes.

The book you're looking for is "The Koran."

Seriously, there's a good book called "The Close Circle: An Interpretation Of The Arabs" by David Pryce-Jones, which though not about terrorism per se, is a revealing history of the stange Arab mindset which causes it to be in conflict at all times.

Basically, there's no allegiance to anything but to the tribe and to Islam, and Islam is not (and rarely has been) the true unifying force that it was supposed to be.

If they weren't fighting us, they'd be fighting each other, just as they've done countless times even in the last century.

It's unbelievable that he could have been a lead analyst at the CIA. He seems completely oblivious to anything but the most conventional bromides about Islam, about Arabs, and about the WOT.

Earlier he says getting OBL would make no difference and now he says he doesn't understand why we (Bush) hasn't been more energetic in getting him. He's not even slick.

CIA-Head who was SUPPOSED to get Osama:
"I've known where Osama-my GREAT hero has been for years.
Why, if Osama only had the right lipstick he could easily replace
that American lowlife George Washington.
"

Even more incredibly, Scheuer's missives indicate that while at the CIA
he also had a big role to play in telling military officers
to ignore President Bush.

"Scheuer ... even goes so far as to call on America's
generals to resign rather than execute orders that
"they know [...] will produce more, not less, danger to their nation".

A full and very important thread on this is here

There was an article/op-ed piece by Fukuyama in the WSJ a few years back that bashed the idea that radical Islam is the result of poverty. Very good article but I can't seem to find it.

Um, to all of you liberals out there who are incapable of strategic thought, wouldn't you think that if we wanted an empire we'd start with some place a little more desirable, and maybe closer? Hell, we could have grabbed Mexico with little more than a couple of days' fighting, and we'd have oil and some great vacation spots.

Likewise Cuba. You could send a liquored up gun club from Georgia down there and take over the place in a week. Iraq has oil, but so does Mexico, and it's lot closer.
