Marine Update!!
Early Sunday morning our son, Adam, finally called home from Iraq. After two solid weeks of fighting in some of the toughest battles of this war it was nice to hear his voice again. His mother cried tears of happiness as they talked about the Care Packages listeners had sent and letters opened on the front, so thanks to all who write to him and especially pray for him. When I finally pried the phone away from Laurie I asked for some of the details of the war. If you were listening on Mondays show I gave you a lot of that information. In a quick nutshellhe and his team of Marines were almost killed (several next to him were killed) only moments after they arrived at the outskirts of the city they were liberating. He said that he and his band of brothers were saying goodbye to each other and praying as the bombs were dropping within feet of where they were pinned down. But for the Grace of God
I asked him if it was surreal that only a few months ago he was playing golf and shooting pool with his dad and now he was in the middle of fire fights. He explained that he was hit with that thought the first time he kicked in a door in the hunt for the terrorist murdering thugs in Iraq. He said it became evident within moments of his arrival exactly who the bad guys were and how much they wanted the world to see them in all of their wicked glory!
When his team arrived at the city they were met by rabid dogs that had been trained by the gorilla killers and let lose to attack. Later, they went through a sludge field soaked with flammable fluids that the terrorists had masked with human waste. The guys got out just in time because the murderers lit the field up seconds later. He and his team also ventured into a street that had daisy chains of land mines meant to kill young men like my son. Luckily, Adam saw the tell-tale signs of the mines and was able to warn his team. Lives were spared that day.
He was wounded by shrapnel during one of the most intense fire fights but will be okay. I asked him if he went for treatment and he said, Dad, we were in the middle of shooting at each other, I couldnt leave my guys. I told him he could have pulled a John Kerry and run for office on war wounds some day. Adam only laughed. It was good to hear him laugh! He said, I looked down at my leg and pulled each piece of shrapnel out and kept fighting.
He was able to call because his team made it to a safe zone for 48 hours. As you read this, he and many of our other great soldiers and Marines are once again in the thick of things. Translation: this dad is asking you to keep praying!!
Prayers sent for him and all the troops -
Great report - thanks for putting it up for others to see -
My prayers for this brave young man and all his comrades.
I love listening him talk about his son. That commercial where he is reading "the last letter" from his son just brings me to tears everytime I hear it.
I do pray for Darrell, his family and his son Adam most of all. I have listened to him for a long time so it is almost like having a family member in Iraq.
Everytime I hear of a death, I listen for the name with dread. I have some friends with children there that don't reveal their emotions as much as Darrell does.
Thanks for posting this--with all the FReepers prayers, may God keep Adam safe and his band of brothers also.
I thought being bombed in Alcala, Spain was my end one day and it wasn't. I want this new generation of warriors to stand up and be counted and DEMAND the respect we all deserve and worked for.
I continue to hold up all our Marines, soldiers, Navy Corpsmen, pilots, and aviators both in Iraq and in Afganistan. I have a nephew that returned in Oct. from the "death triangle", he had participated in fire fights and was almost blown up in Latifiya during a raid.
While in camp MEK in Fallujah he almost got blown up from incoming mortars, his sargeant buddy was not so fortunate that time. He lost his life as he and my nephew dove for cover. The good Lord spared my nephew in that one.
He will be returning to the pit in March. We must as believers continue to hold them all up in prayer, in faith,
believing the good Lord will spare as many as is in His perfect will. I must in my heart believe this. My nephew's
battalion lost six brave Marines during their 7 months there. So for me, prayer is a must for them all.
Stay healthy, and keep the faith that the Lord will return Adam whole in both body and spirit. They are simply the best!

Prayers going your way...I'm going to ask for prayers for Nick too, we haven't heard from him in a month, starting to get worried.
Godspeed to our brave and beloved sons.
