WASHINGTON (AP) - No sign of mad cow disease was found Tuesday in an animal that Agriculture Department officials had singled out for followup tests. Initial screenings last week raised the chance of a second case of the disease in the United States. Officials said a more definitive test at the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, Iowa, came back negative. The announcement was a relief to the U.S. beef industry, which is still trying to recover from the nation's first case of the disease last December.
PRAISE THE LORD!!!!!!!!!
Not mad. Just angry with a few unresolved issues!
Ah, a Kerry supporter/voter.
Great news, I'm going to McDonalds!!
Good news for the boys in Alberta, Canada's conservative heartland. Alberta farmers are still reeling from the first case of BSE months ago which was traced to an Alberta ranch, leading to a US ban on Canadian beef. Fortunately it looks like the ban is about to be lifted because those farmers really could use it.
Remember to "Just shove it", while Hillary throws ashtrays at Stainman.
It's been just devastating for Canadian farmers. I'm surprised the ban has continued for such an extended period.
Yes, thanks for finding a report, I had heard this on wire services just a little while ago. Very good news.
Folks need to remember that these "inconclusive" field tests are going to show up from time to time. That's because anything short of a 100% verifiable negative is labeled "inconclusive" and sent for the more involved testing.
Is it possible that an actual case of BSE might one day show up from these inconclusives? Yes, it's possible. But it's MUCH more likely that a negative will be verified.
Prairie
Saw the headline and dropped in - didn't know Hillary had given blood.
Great news for me in Panama and everybody else. With the last scare, Panama stopped importing pet foods of all kinds from the US, not only beef, but fish, chicken, turkey, etc., canned and dried. It was a very tough year for me. I had to find ways to cook meals for my pets. Panama had just started to import from the US again about 1 1/2 months ago.

Can't say for sure, but I think it is safe to say that people like Carolyn Parrish probably didn't help to hasten the lifting of the ban.
I tend to blame the R-CALF organization, which seems to believe it can take the U.S. back to the 1905-1915 glory days of U.S. agriculture. Remember that they raised a major stick about the USDA allowing in some 'bone-in' Canadian beef last spring, and got a 'judge' to issue an injunction to stop it. Word is that the USDA has been crossing all it t's and dotting its i's so that the new rules allowing the Canadian cattle to come south will pass judicial muster when R-CALF files the inevitable lawsuit to stop the imports. I have considerable sympathy for Canadian cattlemen.
..oops stick = stink
PETA would have loved a positive result
BTTT!!!!!!
