Why the manufacturing rush to China?
Get Your House In Order Says China. They're right!
by Russell Betts - GoGov.com, November 23, 2004
In response to U.S. pressure to devalue the Renminbi, China's official currency, China has responded by telling the U.S. that if it wants to be competitive, it should focus on getting its own house in order.
Says Li Ruogu, the deputy governor of the People's Bank of China (interview FT.com), China's custom is that we never blame others for our own problem, said the senior central bank official. For the past 26 years, we never put pressure or problems on to the world. The US has the reverse attitude, whenever they have a problem, they blame others.
The U.S. is indeed complaining. And one of the most often heard complaints is China's significantly lower labor costs for manufacturers in China - roughly 3 percent of U.S. labor costs. For labor intensive industries, the 3 percent labor figure is a significant competitive advantage, even though automation in the U.S. can overcome some of this difference.
But for most manufacturing companies, the vast majority of which are not labor intensive, lower labor cost is not the only or even the most significant draw for U.S. companies to set up in China.

Tell that to Taiwan and Tibet.
Focking morons.
We are at war with the CHicoms, a trade war. And mark these words there will be a hot war in less then ten years. Why are we helping them build the means to fight us?
That's it....in a nutshell. When the people of this nation decide it is time to stop using the force of government to punish anyone who wants to do business in America, we will see companies coming back to our shores.
I have nothing but contempt for democrats who whine about the "job situation". Their voting habits are directly responsible for any job losses we suffer.
By eliminating the income tax and replacing it with a national retail sales tax, US exports become 25% cheaper overseas, and imports to the US have to pay the nrst of 20% or so - eliminating the tax tax penalty paid by all US manufacuters....
Why do we all keep voting this "Two-Party Cartel" back in each election? There's the answer.
I agree, there is too much Anti China propagand in Freerepublic.

Huh?
Why can't they see this? The very same party that most hates business, takes the most action against it, can not understand why business wants to get out of the U.S.
Do liberals and democrats not comprehend that when they hate someone or something, that someone or something they hate will go away? Why are liberals so stupid?!!
Yes, what's with the citation of the sign up date?
I say, the sooner the better. Bring 'em on!
Really, then we take back our apology for our turboprop knocking down your fighter plane.
For the real solution, see tagline.

Oh don't let Willie Green hear this he won't stand for any of this here competition in the market place. . .
Willie Green supports a smaller goverment and less goverment spending viw more overbearing regulatory and legal burdens associated with manufacturing in the U.S.
China is teh EvilZ. . .
Actually, most of government compliance is private - at the threat of large fines of course. The real problem though, is the reporting requirements. Over 80% of citations issued by OSHA are for paperwork only violations, not actual workplace safety hazards (Source is OSHA's own pages. Look it up. I've done it too many times).
I guess Digger needs to "out" anybody that isn't anti-China enough.
Ohhhh the Horror. . .
I agree absolutely! Anyone looking for the reason our manufacturers are leaving need look no further than our current, communist inspired, TAX CODE!
