Political Criticism Should Not Be Based On Ethnic Stereotypes And Racial Slurs
Questions raised about criticism of Secretary of State nominee Condoleezza Rice
Kweisi Mfume, President & CEO, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), today denounced critics of Secretary of State nominee Condoleezza Rice who have resorted to the use of racial slurs and ethnic stereotypes.
Mfume was referring to a Madison, Wis. radio show host who this week allegedly called Rice, the first African American female to serve as the presidents National Security Advisor, Aunt Jemima, a stereotypical and subservient character often used in a racially demeaning way.
Mfume said, Her counsel is respected and valued in her field and in the upper echelons of her political party. Moreover, Rice, a PhD and former Stanford University Provost, is an example of how far hard work, education and determination can take one to new heights, said Mfume.
He went on to say that attacks on Rice by the radio host and political cartoonists who use stereotypes and racial caricatures are just as bad as those who hide under sheets and burn crosses. This is something the NAACP has fought against for more than 95 years and something we will continue to oppose.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization. Its half-million adult and youth members throughout the United States and the world are frontline advocates for civil rights in their communities and monitor equal opportunity in the public and private sectors.

I'm with you, I suspect if we look closely, we will see Qweezey with his fingers crossed behind his back, and a wink in one eye.
MH, Isn't the above right out of the Mychal Massie article that I saw earlier today?
Mfume is a bit more rational than others in leadership positions in the NAACP.
I'm a bit surprised to see him speaking up on this issue, but only a little bit.
I don't expect we'll see other prominent people in the NAACP following his lead on this issue.
I saw the idiot cartoonist Ted Rall on Hannity last night. I swear I thought Hannity was going to punch his lights out.
Even the wimp Colmes jumped on Rall's case.
Somebody take my temperature...am I hallucinating this month?
Yeah right! where the he!! has this RACIST been in the past 4 years when this stuff was going on in his very own organization. He is only saying this now because it is predominantly coming from a white radio host and political cartoonists now. He's using this opportunity to get his digs in but I assure you when the current brouhaha settles down he will go back to the Liberal status quo and be calling her every thing racist imaginable in the company of his "peeps".
The world must be about to end..
Is this satire? NAACP calling liberal racism, racism?
Yep- Iam with you too- TOOK SEVERAL DAYS before there is
a proclomation of outrage?- I think he had to say
something because of the conservative black religious
Americans have been denoucing this slander since it
began.
Now what does Kwasi have to say about Byrd (hiding
under a sheet)?
Bah.
BS meter going off.
I think whats been happening since Kerry LOST (Sorry, I just love writing that), is they see the writing being scribbled on the wall at the NAACP HQ.
Namely, that knocking the big achieving blacks has most likely driven more middle and upper class blacks far away.
After all, if you can not praise success within your own ethnic group, then to what can everyone else aspire?
Now, you can play that game as long as you win, or as long as you gain by losing, but you can't play the victim card forever in the face of endless loss.
But personally, I believe that, come the next election, they will be butt buddies with the rats just fine.
you won't even be able to stick a piece of paper between them.
the left doesn't count the NRA as a civil rights organization-but no, they're not as old as NRA
An example is their absolute subservience to the NEA as well as other teacher unions (democrat pawns)which in turn have been crushing the opportunities of black children everywhere by pushing away vouchers for equal educational opportunity and defending the status quo of the pathetic governemnt schools in inner cities across America.....
Its all about money for them.
Off topic response:
Dude, I remember that gas station from when I was a little kid.
They had this toy blow up dinosaur that my parents got for me. It was pretty big.
I loved that damn thing...
I hadn't thought about the fact that the people making these attacks on Dr. Rice are mostly white. I knew they were "liberal, tolerant, progressive, multiculturalist" darlings, and therefore are actually racist, intolerant, bigoted, irrational, and driven by hate. But, their worst sin in this particular case, at least from Queasy's perspective, is that they are white.
It is true that what these cartoonists, et al., are saying is consistent with what the NAAC(L)P's and the Harry Belefonte's of the world have been saying for years.
I was glad I was sitting down when I opened this thread.
Where were you when those racist cartoons were published nearly two weeks ago?
Same here. :(
Where did you get that image?
Thank you. It's about time.
