Mexico, U.S. reach accord on migrants' Social Security

QUITO, Ecuador Mexico and Washington agreed to introduce similar legislative initiatives whereby Mexican workers who paid into Social Security in the United States will be refunded their contributions when they return to their homeland, President Vicente Fox said here Monday.

"The initiatives entail the recognition of all those (Mexicans) who have worked in the United States legally or otherwise, so they will have the right to the savings they accumulated while working in the neighboring country," said Fox, who is visiting Ecuador.

During a news conference with Mexican journalists accompanying him on his travels, Fox announced that he and U.S. President George W. Bush agreed to simultaneously introduce in their respective Congresses what he dubbed the "Pay in Full" program initiatives.

Fox and Bush met in Santiago during the weekend summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.

During their meeting, Fox said, the two leaders made "very valuable" advances in talks on a guest worker program for Mexicans in the United States.

We owe them that much

If they're here illegally, we owe them zero.

HINT: that's an *incentive* to return to Mexico

Not at all. Should be no problem to get the money there, and reroute it here. BofA, Wells Fargo, and Western Union will all be quite aggressive at making that happen. For a fee, of course.

And the bankrupt Social Security IOU pile will get worse.

Look on the bright side, it will be bankrupted in five years, instead of 20 years and the 60's baby boomers will be the ones left out in the cold instead of the younger generations.

Afterwards, following the provisions of this agreement to introduce similar legislation, Mexico will introduce legislation into the Mexican Congress whereby Mexican workers who paid into Social Security in the United States will be refunded their contributions when they return to their homeland.

Yup. Should be a real difficult bill for them.

Mexican Congressmen Numero Uno: "Do you think the gringos should give the social security money to our people?"

Mexican Congressman Numero Dos: "Of course! The bill is passed, and El Presidente Foxy will be notified to sign it!"

A hard day's work in the Mexican House.

Hey, Hadenuf! Love your new home page. Your Dad was really there for all the fun! Bet he had some wild stories, probably right around Cuban Missile Crisis time.

Funny you say that. Among others, he was also had a friend named Francis Gary Powers, (U2 pilot shot down over former Soviet Union) who crashed and burned in LA while piloting a news traffic chopper, (from U2 pilot to chopper pilot, go figure) We had some interesting guests from time to time. He was involved in some rather high end history. Some time I'll post some more pics.

I think you and I have been down this road before.

So I guess you like Jo Anne Barnhart and Bush's plan to aid the 3,000 American workers. So you like spending hundreds of millions of dollars for 3,000 American workers which make up 0.00005 percent of our population. This 0.00005 percent of our population is just sooooo lucky that they didn't have jobs that were outsourced to places like Mexico. The hundreds of thousands of the people who lost their jobs in the US were told to retrain.

Certainly, we wouldn't be doing this for Mexicans because currently it is illegal hire them. So why would Bush, the law and order man, write an agreement that is for people breaking our laws?

By the way, has Bush released the agreement to the American public yet???

Exactly. I sometimes think Bush wants to bankrupt S.S. as a way of reforming S.S.

OK,
"works for me"
works for me as well...
so long as they return tomorrow, before close of business, and leaving behind all their phony ID, consular cards, stolen credit cards, and junk cars...pay 'em off and let 'em out.

Don't let them back in.

"Works for me"

Not for me!

The money contributed under a phony SS# should be confiscated and called a fine!

I have a question:

Why is it that, if you're a Mexican here illegally, but paying into the Social Security system, this money is "savings" that can be withdrawn, but if you are here legally and paying into the system, the money goes into the general fund to support those who are already on Social Security? There is something deeply wrong with this picture.

Once those poor, desperate, hard-working folks south of the border realize that the US government will store their SS taxes in a savings account that they can cash in when they leave, they'll be crossing the border like locusts moving across the African Savanna.

"You can find the same behavior on lots of street corners in Queens and Brooklyn,.."

Yeah, I know the type. Had one in H.S. mistake meek for weak and demanded a dollar from me. After he "insisted" in front of his friends, I offered to beat the living crap out of him for it because it'd be worth the buck. He and his friends left - they ribbing the heck outta him.

Guy turned out to be a good friend. After that, I'd give him the shirt off my back - but that's another story... Oh well, times/people change..

How many illegal aliens pay money *in* to our Social Security Administration?

Many who commit felony document fraud might inadvertently pay in using the SSN of the victim they stole it from --- and these are felony criminals --- they deserve no reward at all --- only permanent deportation, a criminal record, and prison terms.

How will we ensure that they stay in Mexico?

Nothing would stop 10 guys all coming to claim they worked illegally using the same stolen Social Security number, also nothing would stop 1 illegal from claiming to have worked with 4 or 5 stolen Social Security numbers -- or establishing 4 or 5 separate identities that each claim to have worked her with stolen or fraudulent identification documents.

I bet there will be very generous payments being made for the "survivors" such as widows and needy offspring of the felony document fraud criminals.

The alternative seems less savory.

The alternative is to send them home and let the wealthy Mexican government provide a living for them instead of the American taxpayer. Maybe all that petroleum could be used to provide them a pension fund --- instead all of that wealth going into just a few elites' pockets. Their oil is nationalized after all.

Fitz saves the day with encyclopaedic knowledge of the real situation, and gives no ground on calling alien fraud racketeers what they are: opportunist criminals.

Bravo.
