'It makes no sense'-As sixth hunter dies, sheriff offers details ...

HAYWARD, Wis. — The scene is as old as humanity itself: A hunter stakes out territory, only to find it claimed by another. Modern deer hunters usually resolve the matter amicably.

But deep in a thick Wisconsin forest on Sunday, for reasons authorities still can't fathom, a St. Paul man who was asked to leave another hunter's deer stand began to do so and then turned and opened fire on one of the landowners and his fellow hunters, killing six and wounding two, authorities said. The suspect had apparently gotten lost earlier that morning and wound up on the private property.

"My bad, absolutely my bad. Given this new information I now see that the United States would have been justified in using them for our purposes in SE Asia and then abandoning them to be slaughtered by the communists."

I didn't say that. I was just pointing out who they were and the background they came from. You shouldn't be so PC. It's ok to find out about other peoples cultures. Sometimes it can help explain why they act as they do.

you'd hunt with it because it makes a good rifle for deer out to about 150 yards or so. Roughly equal to the traditional 30-30 round. You can get them for around $150, the ammo is cheap, and the rifle is very well built and reliable.

SKS's are inexpensive not because they are cheaply made, but because they were made by the millions and millions in commbloc countries and now they are getting rid of all their SKS rifles.

A,
I don't hunt, but get the vibe that here in MA it's bad bad for you if you're caught in the field with a sidearm.

That is, you have a rifle and are after bigger game but have a sidearm for unexpected nasties (4 legged or 2 legged variety).

Hmong were regarded during the war as a kind of Asian Apache. They killed vietnamese because they were...different and they plain hated them.

Hmongs are kinda, sorta like the Montagnards from the Central Highlands of Vietnam , just lived further North.

They fought with the Special Forces as guerrillas fighters / mercenaries.

I didn't say that. I was just pointing out who they were and the background they came from.

Right, so tell me how informing everyone here that they (or woul you prefer "those people") are:

essentially Laotian hillbillies. They are very 'tribal' and like other mountain people tend to carry on feuds for generations. Think Laotian Hatfields and McCoys and thats the Hmong.

Trust me on this one, I am about as un-PC as anyone you will ever meet. I was already aware of the Hmongs because of how bravely they fought in SE Asia.

So, I guess, all in all, I have to agree with you.

It's ok to find out about other peoples cultures. Sometimes it can help explain why they act as they do

Try it !! Do a litle research on how they served our country and how they suffered for it.

Hmongs = hillbillies doesn't have anything to do with explaining why one nut case killed 6 people.

And weren't those the tribesmen depicted in the movie Apocolypse Now--the guys who went around chopping off heads and putting them on sticks?

No wonder.

My personal experience was with the 'Mong. The Bodes had a tribe of something else, there were nomadic groups and may there have been a Thai group. Can't think of anything other than the Montagnards, which I THINK were depictwed in Apocalypse.

You better check up on the law in Wisconsin about what constitutes trespass in open countryside. Remember, this ain't Louisiana, and you can't just gun down people who foolishly knock on your door. It gets a lot more restrictive than that when there is no door, nor house, nor fenceline involved.

Besides, after the guy shot up 8 people killing 6, trespass is the least of the issues surrounding this case.

---It's a good thing for the rest of us that Kerry lost.---

A very good thing! And it's a good thing for me and my SKS that I no longer reside in California. They we're passing anti-gun bills at the rate of 2-3 per year. Davis tried to dissuade them from passing anymore until the ones they'd already passed were put into effect, but the legislature didn't listen and of course Davis signed them anyway.

It is believed Chai Soua Vang went back into the woods and again got lost. Two other hunters helped him find his way to a road, and after they realized he was the subject of a manhunt, they took him to a state game warden, who placed him under arrest.

This excerpt from the Pioneer Press article has been underplayed deliberately by the liberal media, it seems to me.

It looks like these two hunters made a citizens arrest, then turned him over to the warden. This needs to be investigated. It sounds as if it is a case of armed citizens apprehending a murderer, that is not being mentioned because it doesn't fit the liberal playbook that guns are only good for killing. I've put out feelers, but would appreciate any help I can get.

The Criminal Complaint from yesterday is here. It sounds like a DNR warden put him under arrest after another hunter brought Vang out. It's right at the end of the complaint.

Yeah but isn't it hard to tell you are on private property when it is mixed in with public land? Serious?

Hunting season has started here and I pray no stray bullets hit a window.

Thank God our room we live in faces out towards the bay and up on a hill, duck hunters are out also.

It stopped when we stopped sniffing the trees to check.

Do YOU sniff the trees?

Is this just a regional thing? Any local FReepers care to comment?

Not much moving besides deer in Minnesota/Wisconsin after mid-October. Most hunters (that I've met) up here just carry their rifle to the stand. It's very possible that they were on ATV's at the time, and in that case they probably had their rifles cased up.

Thank God we have super snitchy citizens when it comes to drinking and driving.

The penalties are car repo and a $10,000 fine, plus out patient rehab classes and AA meetings. Oh and loss of driving privliges except to work and home.

We still have the highest liquor sales in the State of Oregon and being our liquor stores don't sale wine or beer that is just counting the hard stuff.

Alot of closet drinkers, most of the calls on the scanner are for possible Drunk Drivers or drunks gone wild on the spouse.
