When you have only a single computer , I don't think I would recommend moving to Linux without a LOT of checking....and backing up everything.....
A nice way to do it is get a KVM switch ...allows sharing of monitor, keyboard and mouse between 2 (or more with larger switches ) and put Linux on a separate older computer.

That sounds like a good idea. I've been thinking about getting an older computer to play around with, I saw #12- Guess I'd better aim at 800Mhz and up.
Is there anything that can be done for those old 300Mhz putters running Win98??

seperate older computer aka useless computer that's not critcal.
that's like I use older car for going to grocery or ghetto area.
