He was an amazing orator wasn't he! However, I must honestly say I believe that speech would only shock
*our* contemporaries. Washington's contemporaries shared in his beliefs. In fact, in the same speech he addresses his fellow citizens saying:
"With slight shades of difference, you have the same religion, manners, habits, and political principles."
