"I've got a cousin who went javelina hunting years ago, and they ended up hunting HIM! They chased him into a Prickly Pear patch, and in the end he was (relatively) unharmed.

You might put a five round mag in your AK, but I'll "betcha" that you keep a 30 rounder in your back pocket! :-)"

I'm going to check with Game & Fish, but I recall that it's against the law to posess a hi-cap mag while you are hunting. I'll for sure be carrying an extra 5 rd mag or 2 with me, and also carry a sidearm with some high-power hollowpoint rounds.

Javelina are mean critters, but if 3 guys with rifles and sidearms can't put down a few on the attack... then I figure we probably deserve to get gored, just for being such bad shots. :)

Yes, it's not against the law in AZ to carry a sidearm for self-defense while hunting (don't know about our more socialist Nordic states). Many hunters in southern Arizona carry pistols because of all the border crossing drug smugglers and other invaders. It's not uncommon for Border Patrol to stop hunters and ask for intel or for hunters to report suspicious activity or stumble across unmanned drop sites. I imagine any decent caliber handgun with hollow points would be effective medicine for a pigrat that is right on top of you. In close quarters a handgun can definitely be a lot "handier". Happy trails...

I'm almost CERTAIN that it's illegal to carry anything over a 5 round mag when hunting! I would definitely check though. :-)
