SKS is a piece of crap: kind of a Saturday-night-special rifle. True of some Chicom rifles; NOT true of Russian, Yugoslavian, and East German.

I had a 1953 Model SKS from Russia. It had a cherry stock and was milled and beautiful. There were no burrs on any of the metal and the stock was finished in an excellent manner. I sold it when I got my Springfield M1A.

Agree. got mine in the original Soviet box, never issued. Got it a gun show in Sacramento. Funny story. Bought it cash, in the box, with the spike bayonet on it. As I'm walking out of the gun show, along with about 500 rounds of ammo, a county sheriff goes " where the hell you going with that?" I tell him it's a collectable, no "cooling off period", another sheriff goes " yup, he's right, he can take it." Can't buy a 22 pistol and bring it home, but a semiauto mil rifle with the bayonet was OK. Loved the look on the first sheriffs face.
