Five people, one a woman and one a teenage boy, were killed following a dispute over the use of a tree stand. Chai Vang, 36, of St. Paul was arrested several hours after the shootings and is being held in the Sawyer County Jail.

Something strange. This is a VERY odd incident.
Does Wisconsin have the death penalty?

Five people, one a woman and one a teenage boy, were killed following a dispute over the use of a tree stand.
These news reports are misleading. According to local law enforcement, there was no "dispute". The killer was observed in a tree stand on private property. He was asked to leave. He then climbed down from the tree stand, walked off some 40 yards, turned, and opened fire.

Vietnamese? Hmong? Just a guess. I think the Minneapolis area has some Vietnamese population.
Just for the record, all the Vietnamese-Americans I've met are outstandingly good citizens. But all ethnic groups have their deviants and nut cases.

I grew up in Wisconsin This was never heard of before... accidential shooting yes, but this as a trespassing dispute is horrible... I have not read anywhere where any of the hunters had even threatened this guy, much less return fire.

This "journalist" failed to mention much.....except they did find someone who said that this would dampen enthusiasm to going to the woods......What an idiotic thing to report.
The important fact is that a Hmong immigrant murdered all these people and that they are responsible for a crime wave in the area.

Koob said the men were shot with a high-powered assault rifle from a range of about 50 yards. I suspect they were shot with a deer rifle, not an assault rifle. You don't see all that many assault rifles up in the tree stands.

anything more than a .22 with 3 round capacity is an assault rifle- just look it up in your media dictionary.

They were reportedly shot with an SKS, which is neither "high-powered" nor an "assault weapon".

I believe Mr. Vang had some Issues with a capital "I".
I've never heard of anybody using an SKS as a hunting rifle, either, but, hey, whatever works I guess. I didn't think they were accurate enough.
