The Japanese NGO (non government humanitarian) group in support of freedom in North Korea and safety for North Korean refugees, R.E.N.K., has released secret, internal North Korean Workers (Communist) Party documents which indicated substantial concern by the regime's authorities about smuggling that involved Western influences/documents/videos, etc. and reaching North Koreans, as well as secret North Korean Party documents making it to the outside.
Partial translation to follow--assistance requested of other Freepers (if they have time or comments) who have "Freepranslation" skills; (these docs were just released today on the web):
Here is one of the North Korean internal documents showing heightened concern (cover page):
More follows:
That's it..but the picture editor worked O/T to find the older one..a nice job..The Times story implies that it's CHia head himself who has ordered this "de-deification" ( BTW is that a word?) of himself..do you put any credence in that spin?
I like the part that says "Partial translation to (as) follow(s)-- assistance requested from other Freepers..."
North Korean Freeper requests assistance:)
Thanks!
If it were a coup d'etat, or military move against him, there would have been many more indicators out there, but humint and elint. As such, just the reports of (some) of the portraits coming down. Chia Head, IMHO here only, senses the buildup of triangular pressure: from below (the Korean People), from outside (from China and NGOs getting people into his border areas and causing trouble) and from above (Uncle Sam and Uncle George's Magical Traveling MOAB Show).
NK is unstable, and NOT sustainable. It's a question of time, and whether it's a violent takedown, or a quiet one like that which marked the end of the USSR.. ANY sign of weakness by the regime can only encourage that process..
Trust me on this one. NK could be on the brink of an overthrow and we would have no idea. Even with defectors, it is the most buttoned down joint in the world. It could happen tomorrow or it might not happen for years.
Well, with the Clinton disembowlment of our intelligence services, I could agree with you that we would have some blind spots vis a vis DPRK, because we have not had enough risk-takers send in people that should be in there on the ground. I do give the Chia Head at least another year (not that I wish for it too take that long, though).

Need help with the rest...

Damn... I should read the whole thread before posting.
There's always next time.
"Sir, I confirm the coordinates of North Korea, but I can't confirm the existance of North Korea!"
I think North Korea is in economic collaspe. They have to many mouths to feed, and no way to feed them. This is the same way Russia went, except NK is more isolationist and is going down faster.
How do we know these aren't forgeries created by Dan Rather?
According to this document, Christian religious materials are also getting into N. Korea. Apparently they made N. Koreans worried as much as S. Korean dramas and movies did.
I was watching this country long before Clinton and we knew nothing then. This is not a place where you can send someone in. The ROK rarely gets anything other than defector info. Some nuts are just not meant to cracked. I hope Kim goes down, but he's always been underestimated by the ROK and US.
HA! HA! ...LOL! :))
IMO Kerry was very close to blowing out of the water a strategy that was in the works.
