A 60-year-old woman walked into a Beaver County police station yesterday and admitted shooting her husband and dumping his body in a cistern after he shoved her and threatened to kill their pets.
New Sewickley Township Police Chief John Daley issued a press release today saying Elsie Kost has been charged with homicide in the death of Edward Kost, 60.
Police said the killing occurred Tuesday and in the five days afterward Elsie Kost told people her husband had gone to a hunting camp.
Kost told her 25-year-old daughter, Melissa Kost, about the shooting yesterday, and together they went to the police station.
Police released the following account based on Elsie Kost's statement:
Kost had an argument with her husband on Tuesday during which her husband had pushed and shoved her inside their house on Cycle Drive. Edward Kost reportedly threatened to shoot some of the family's pets and he got a handgun. After he placed the loaded gun on the kitchen table, he walked outside.
Elsie Kost picked up the gun and followed her husband outside, where she shot him. Afterwards, Kost, who was home alone, placed her husband's body in a wheeled cart and moved him to a cistern at the rear of the property. She then placed the body in the cistern, where it remained until police recovered it Sunday afternoon.
To explain her husband's absence, Kost told other family members that he had gone to his hunting camp. However, on Sunday morning she told her daughter what had actually happened.
The body of Edward Kost was removed from the cistern, and an autopsy is scheduled for today.
