And, it will get worse once the NBA stars get theirs.

College football/basketball teams hire these thugs to play as they are released. Just watch ANY big ten varsity football.basketball team. Even women's basketball is now racially excluding whites.

It is still a wonder to me why an occasional black athlete is offended when some one says that he is so well spoken and articulate.

The November 14 editorial was not the first venture into the realm of prison violence by the Times editorial page. On September 7, editorial board member Brent Staples wrote a signed editorial, “Fighting the AIDS Epidemic by Issuing Condoms in the Prisons”, with condoms offering a surefire way to curb AIDS. Yep, that’ll do it. When a prisoner is about to be raped, all he’ll have to do is request that his attacker don a condom.

Rather than condoms, why don't we force chemical castration on men in prison. That's a sure-fire way to end prison rapes.

If I'm not mistaken, Jeffry Dumars targeted black people because of the sexual abuse that he experienced in jail.

I'm sure if these guys had to spend time in prison and take the risks of other convicts they might change their tune. Put the reporter from the Times in with a black inmate and see if he sings the same song after he's had a few intimate encounters with his fellow inmates.

sultzberger family- owners of the ny times. very strange family, very wealthy, very influencial, and very dangerous.supposedly the elder sulzberger is(or was?) hesitant to hand over control to his sons.too radical even for daddy!!sons are socialist/liberal elites with a radical homosexual agenda.i think sulzbergers would feel quite at home with a homosexual/rapist cellmate.

because chemical is reversible.

After someone has paid their debt to society, if they wish to be a meaningful member of that society and raise children, they should have that right. Since sex is not a right, in prison the sex drive should be aggressively curbed. Since we have the ability to curb the drive, without turning it into a cruel and unusual punishment, we should do so.

IMO, if a prisoner has committed sexual crimes against fellow inmates (or the general population before entering prison), just the regular mechanical castration should be mandatory.

It is beyond disgusting and horrible that prison sodomy is not stopped.

At this point, I'm open to just about anything.

oh, I concur, if they are habitual rapists, castrate them. I see no reason not to.

My point is that we should employ chemical castration to ALL inmates, regardless of their crime.

Moral Absolutes Ping.

There is much fodder for discussion and thought here.

1. Prison rape and even "consensual" sodomy - why the he!! is it allowed? Rape should be punishable by death, as it used to be up until a generation or two ago. Rape became a much more common crime when it ceased to be a capital crime. I mentioned castration up the thread - really, rapists should just be executed.

2. Racial segregation for protecion against gang violence? Obviously it should be allowed. If a prisoner doesn't have a death sentence, why should an unauthorized death sentences be meted to him by fellow prisoners?

3. Prisons are not working. There are two reasons for punishing criminals - justice, and for rehabilitaion. Hopefully prisoners will see the light and want to rejoin civilized society. There are many reasons why this is not happening. If gang members and rapists dominate the inner life of prisons (and tons of drugs, from what I've heard), then something is gravely wrong with the system.

A DA (actually the head DA for this county who is now retired) told me privately that the only thing that will work for many criminals is public caning or beating, as in Singapore. But people won't go for it. Public pain and public shame will definitely be more of a deterrant that the current system. It will be MUCH cheaper, immediately enforced, and I am willing to wager that recidivism will drop immensely.

The death penalty should be expanded for crimes such as rape, child molesting, and perhaps some other crimes. No 15 or 20 years of appeals.

Prisons should be self supporting - the prisoners should grow their own food, cotton, wool, weave their own clothes, make their own shoes, and so on. Why not? Give them something useful to do, and they will learn good work skills and habits.

Let me know if anyone wants on/off this pinglist.

And as an afterthought, how about more public displays of the 10 Commandments? How about more teaching of "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"? How about learning maxims such as "You will reap as you sow"? It's interesting to note that in previous generations (anyone ever read the McGuffy readers?) children were taught not only the 3 Rs, but morality as well. Many reading materials contained moral lessons.
