Yeah, obviously I dont know for a fact. One does have to wonder what Mr. Vang was doing hunting with a fully charged SKS and an additional stripper clip. If he had a license, he had to know that was not legal (it certainly isnt here).
Ill concede your point about bolt guns and one shot . . . but it takes a certain measure of expertise and experience to prevail that way when lead is being slung.
Out of curiosity, it the gun illegal or the cartridge. They're not uncommon to see in Wisconsin.
He wasn't hunting with an SKS. He left the stand, went to his car and got an SKS, then returned and started shooting people. One story I read said he followed their tracks through the snow and gunned them down as he found them.
Shooting other hunters is not legal, nor is hunting posted land without permission.
Folks here seem to be getting sidetracked about the rifle, and not about the criminal actions of the bearer.
Few hunters go into the wood expecting to be the hunted.
Apparently he left and exchanged his legal gun(5 round max capacity) for the SKS. That indicates he intended to kill folks.

That's right. The landowner's party consisted of family and friends. I'm sure they were in shock and in no way anticipated, or were capapable of a gunfight. Of the 6 that came to the rescue, one was a woman, probably the mom of the teenager that was shot in that group. 2 younger persons remained back at the cabin. They ran out to render first aid, not to get into a fight. As it happened, some were actually chased down and shot. These folks weren't warriors.
