A new anti-United Nations television campaign is reversing the familiar refrain "get the U.S. out of the U.N.," and instead urges the global body be kicked out of the U.S.
"The U.N. has become an apologist and defender of terrorist organizations and their agents," says the 60-second commercial, which points out the recent Oil-for-Food scandal involving the U.N.
"Billions of dollars intended for humanitarian aid instead went to pay the families of Palestinian terrorists, and to buy weapons for Iraq-based terrorists. Millions more went to bribe journalists and officials in countries opposing Operation Iraqi Freedom, like France, Germany and Russia, the most vocal critics of the war. What a coincidence."
It continues by asking: "We tell other countries not to harbor organizations that support terrorists, why then do we harbor the U.N. here in America?"
Leading the campaign to boot the U.N. is the conservative organization, Move America Forward, which was founded by former California Assemblyman Howard Kaloogian and San Francisco talk-radio personality Melanie Morgan.
Kaloogian recently chaired the Recall Gray Davis Committee, leading the effort that replaced the embattled California governor with Arnold Schwarzenegger, and also helped rally millions of Americans to oppose the airing of the CBS' piece "The Reagans," which portrayed the former first family unfavorably.
"The recent revelations on the U.N. Oil-for-Food scandal are the final straws in making the case against the U.N.," said Kaloogian. "The U.S. government is resolved to take action against nations that harbor terrorists or organizations which provide financial aid or in-kind assistance to terrorists. Why, then does our nation play host to, and harbor, the United Nations when recent evidence implicates the U.N.'s role in providing assistance to terrorists such as Yasser Arafat and Saddam Hussein?"
The group is asking concerned citizens to sign its online petition which will be delivered to President Bush and leaders of Congress, as well as the U.N.
The petition concludes by stating, "We, the undersigned, do therefore call for the following to take place immediately:
Removal of the United Nations Headquarters facilities from New York, relocating it outside of the United States and any of its territories.
A thorough review of the U.S. financial contributions to the U.N. with a goal of a more equitable payment schedule. Until that review is concluded, eliminate all the payments made by the United States to the United Nations." Response to the effort thus far has been overwhelming, according to the group.
"I have never seen such a vigorous response to any grassroots effort like there's been to this effort to take serious steps to sanction the U.N. for it's coddling of terrorists and terrorist-supporting regimes," said Morgan of KSFO Radio.
"We need drastic change right away, and that begins with getting the U.N. out of this country and all the terrorist-sympathizing U.N. agents out of here immediately. Then we need to re-examine the amount of money that we provide the U.N. Americans pay too much to the U.N. for the treatment we receive," she said.
I dont think giving them the boot is the right thing to do for several reasons.
First, if they move to france, or any other terrorist apoligist nation, they will become even more of a US power counterbalance than they already are.
If they are in France, it would be even less likely they would co-operate with those trying to hold them accountable for their scandals.
If they are in another country, its harder to keep an eye on what their "diplomats" do in thier spare time.
We should cut off all and any funding until this oil-for-terrorsim UN-Saddam deal is fully accounted for.
I say we just give the entire country of Haiti to the UN. Let them show the world how good they are at running that den of thieves. Maybe then the militias would collect on all those unpaid parking tickets.
BUMP
Better late than never. And if it happens during the Bush II administration, it will be one of the biggest feathers in his cap.
Send the UN to France?
You have to be kidding. They don't deserve such good food!
I think Haiti, Sudan, Bangladesh or a real poverty stricken country would be better.
Then the UN officials can dig in and really help some poor people, instead of living like kings in NY.
Bravo Señor, that will prove if United Nation is really effective as a world body...
"would that measure will lead U.S.A to isolation, from the world organization?"
I don't get it. Haven't they shown over the last few years they could care less what we say any way? Right now they have a tax free building and land... and full diplomatic immunity for their hacks.
The land and building may be the only problem we have. Did we grant it outright to the UN? Would we have to buy it back... who fixes the price?
I think the biggest initial issues we would have would be legal concerning the land, etc.
The land was granted to them by Rockefeller. It is not legally part of New York (or even the US). A bit like embassys abroad
Seize the building and turn it over to the city in partial payment for unpaid parking tickets. Kick the "diplomats" out and tell them they are ineligible to visit the US in the future.
The UN has followed in the footsteps of its predecessor - the League of Nations.
Apparently, global peace-keeping bodies are simply NOT a workable solution. The end of the League of Nations was WWII.
I shudder to think what the end of the UN will be - except that we are already in it.
There is another esteemed organization that has been fighting this fight and collecting petition signatures for a long time, namely The John Birch Society.
This thread will now die, however, due to a morbid and unfounded fear of anything JBS on this site.
You're welcome.

Go for it, and good luck!
Let them set up shop in Haiti....
