The Hmong were our "allies." The Vietnamese hate them - ethnically different. The people Kurtz is with in Apocalypse Now were Hmong.

Most probably NOT.

The Hmong are not recognised as a actual "people" by the low-landers. They are thought of as being worthy of genocide by the Communists.

The Hmong in general were great help to some of our Special Forces during the Vietnam era. These people would often tell the Americans where the actual "Commies" were. They would provide food and shelter, too, although they had little to offer.

Often got their villages destroyed to the last man, too, for their effort.

I know this from my daughters Godfather, who was Special Forces.

Nope, his people were our allies during the '70's.

Hardly. The Hmong people were on our side, and many of them emigrated to the U.S., with a large population coming to the TC's.

As far as I understand it, they didn't even have a written language, and have made a significant effort to learn English.

No way. The Hmong were American allies in the war.
