SANTIAGO, Chile President Bush broke up a fight last night between his lead Secret Service agent and a Chilean security detail, pulling the agent through a wall of men trying to bar his bodyguard's access to a state dinner[snip]
Mr. Bush calmly turned right as the other three continued on and inserted himself into the fight. The president reached over two rows of Chilean security guards, grabbed his lead agent by the shoulder of his suit jacket and began to pull.
The tape of the incident, viewed by reporters last night, could not pick up any words the president might have been saying as he worked to get the agent through the line.
A few Chilean guards turned their heads and noticed that the arm draped over their shoulders was that of the president, and the line softened. Mr. Bush pulled his agent through, who was heard to say, "Get your hands off me" as he passed roughly through the doorway.[snip]
The Secret Service source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the president's security detail and that the Chileans had argued about security procedures all day and that he wasn't surprised to see last night's skirmish unfold.
The Chileans, he said, were determined to take charge of security, but the president of the United States is the only world leader who takes his bodyguards with him wherever he goes. Normally, foreign countries defer to that demand. The Chilean security detail resisted, the source said, and was determined to take a stand at the dinner.
Chilean security knew that the Secret Service always accompanies the president and knows how to identify them by the pins on their lapels, the source said, but blocked them anyway.

Sounds more like you have become one.
Agreed. Also, I am not sure if anyone saw this (and I doubt that because Freepers are sharp tacks!) but the Chilean Security did NOT move to block the door for after Head's of State entered the builing.
If that isn't a slap, I don't know what is.
You I thought it was your job to simply post the articles. I didn't know you had the capacity to respond to the comments.
*grin* good point.
You just proved my point.
These guys are lucky that nothing came of their 'resistance' to the Secret Service. Can you imagine them rushing the President to 'get' those Secret Service guys. Gunfire. An international incident. And Chilean thugs - dead. A crowd terrified that they could have been shot, as well?
That sort of resistance isn't something you - work around. He shouldn't have gone. They had to cancel a state dinner, afterward. He shouldn't have made the trip. His staff let him down.
Might have needed Clint's alter-ego. With such Chilean 'resistance' to providing for Presidential security, this could have gotten bad - very quickly. He should never have made the trip if they couldn't have settled basic security arguments, in the first place!
How smart is someone who keeps clicking on articles that they know have been posted?
Hopefully to save others the embarassment. Clearly, that's not necessary with you.
That agent wil NOT be in trouble. He is the President's lead agent and from all accounts, there is a lot of respect between the two men.
This guy has been with President Bush since the 2000 race.
He is always right near the President's side.
What does that even mean?
Bud out flower.
That fascinated me as well with this video. We have this huge motorcade, with really nice black cars, ambulance, flashing lights, etc. You can even hear the helicopters start flying closer overhead when the President gets close. Around 16 minutes or so.
I wish I spoke Spanish though. I would like to know what the little commentator girl was giggling about as the motorcade was pulling in. Also, she mention Iraq several times. GRRRRRR.
You have been a jerk all day to everyone. Why won't you explain that statement?
Wow! That was the best I have seen as it shows the whole incident in context. That scuffle went on for more than a few seconds and when the President responded, he responded quick! No hesitation, no what do I do? He turned on a dime, did what he had to do and went on with business.
I watched the video several times.....Were the Chileans trying to block the SS from getting back to the limo? It looked like a mass of men in black coming from the right. PO'd chileans?
Then again, you just focused on the event even more. I had heard or read somewhere - Lord knows where - that we brought our own vehicles. Good!
Read these articles it will make you feel MUCH better about his security and it's pretty interesting. Especially the first one.
Thank God he always travels with his own stuff, including helicopters.
I think his trip to Britain last year involved several thousand people.

BTW, I am a paramedic and I worked for a medical helicopter provider in a major hospital.
That's why I noticed the ambulance and heard the helicopters. Lots of ingrained sights and sounds for me!
