In role reversal, president rescues Secret Service agent
Washington Times ^ | 11/21/04 | James G. Lakely

SANTIAGO, Chile — President Bush broke up a fight last night between his lead Secret Service agent and a Chilean security detail, pulling the agent through a wall of men trying to bar his bodyguard's access to a state dinner

[snip]

Mr. Bush calmly turned right as the other three continued on and inserted himself into the fight. The president reached over two rows of Chilean security guards, grabbed his lead agent by the shoulder of his suit jacket and began to pull.
The tape of the incident, viewed by reporters last night, could not pick up any words the president might have been saying as he worked to get the agent through the line.
A few Chilean guards turned their heads and noticed that the arm draped over their shoulders was that of the president, and the line softened. Mr. Bush pulled his agent through, who was heard to say, "Get your hands off me" as he passed roughly through the doorway.

[snip]

The Secret Service source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the president's security detail and that the Chileans had argued about security procedures all day and that he wasn't surprised to see last night's skirmish unfold.

The Chileans, he said, were determined to take charge of security, but the president of the United States is the only world leader who takes his bodyguards with him wherever he goes. Normally, foreign countries defer to that demand. The Chilean security detail resisted, the source said, and was determined to take a stand at the dinner.

Chilean security knew that the Secret Service always accompanies the president and knows how to identify them by the pins on their lapels, the source said, but blocked them anyway.

The Chilian guards that pulled this stunt should be fired. I'm sure they did not pull this without the express consent of the Chilian PM, but that makes no difference to me. I want to see head roll (not as in Jihadi, just figuratively). This is an insult we shouldn't put up with.

Yes. And it's still very good.

The difference between me plucking Randy (Chow/Rottie mix) out of a dogfight, and the President plucking his SS guy out of a dogfight is that I generally go low, and pull Randy down and out by the collar. I find I lose fewer fingers that way.

But it doesn't matter. You still wade into a dogfight to get your buddy out.

Hey newbie, have you any idea who you are addressing? This is from the WT, more info than the other articles. I wouldn't be so quick to attack veteran posters here.

Why don't you read the article first. You might discover new information is contained in it. Or are you suggesting we read only one source?

No it wasn't. Not this article. I have been looking for this and am very glad it was posted. Pleeezzze, these "it was already posted, it was already posted" posts are starting to get annoying. I appreciate the effort we all must make to keep FR clean and I don't mean to offend. But few times have I seen an "its already been posted" post that actually was worthwhile.

Okay, now you can link to all the threads with the same Washington Times article so I can eat my words. FReepRegards, BJN

From the pictures I saw, some of them are still nursing stress injuries. Particularly fingers. It's all good.

Thanks for the new information on this incident. The other threads did not include the fact that this was an on-going problem with the Chilaen security trying to throw their weight around. I'm happy our presidents do not have to rely on foreign bodyguards as they travel the world.

So what? It's news and it's great news. Fun news and...shows our President as an ordinary guy. The Freepers love it and I doubt the MSM will show it in its entirety as it would show W as caring for other people and brave enough to go help out. I can't get enough of it. It's funny, neat, incredible and not surprising as this is George W. Bush at his FINEST. :)

Why don't you read the article first. You might discover new information is contained in it. Or are you suggesting we read only one source?

And that requires a new thread? It would be perfectly adequate for YOU to actually read the article and post the new information on the CURRENT thread. How hard would that be?
