We're sure looking forward to seeing you guys again. Mr. basil and I plann to arrive on Tues and leave on Sat. I'm working on some other Texans to join us there.
Since this is our first, how does everyone know everyone and is it hard to find you all? Will everyone be wearint the same thing? :)

So we get out of the metro and the first thing I see is a bunch of punked out guys, spiked purple hair, spiked dog collars and leather jackets. My first thought was "oooooooh my goodness", then they turned around. The back of their jackets all had BUSH on them! We ended up having a great time.
Plan to go this year. Hope to see some freepers there
As for hotels, the State Plaza (my fave, all suites and inexpensive) is booked up. It has several sister hotels, one is the Washington Plaza, rooms are available but at $250 a night w/a 3 night minimum, plus big taxes, it's gonna cost you. Check out motels in VA ASAP - like the motels (Comfort Inn) near the Van Down Metro stop. I'm sure there will be space in Old Town Alexandria, with a walk to the Metro, like the Holiday Inn. You better book ASAP, though.
There are several Comfort Inns NOT near a metro station, but the price difference is worth it.
Then there's the Harrington Hotel, one block from Pennsylvania, like about 10th Street, but it's realllly crappy. The neighborhood is safe, though.
Do not book a DC hotel unless someone tells you the neighborhood is safe.
