Clinton Rips Media, Ken Starr After Opening of Presidential Library By James Jefferson Associated Press Writer

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - In a prime-time television outburst, Bill Clinton ripped old nemesis Kenneth Starr and what the former president portrayed as a gullible media eager to report every "sleazy thing" leaked from a prosecutor bent on bringing him down. The exchange came in an interview with ABC news anchor Peter Jennings that aired Thursday night, hours after Clinton opened his $165 million presidential library. Clinton blasted Starr and spoke disdainfully of a national media that he suggested was complicit in a scheme to ruin his presidency.

"No other president ever had to endure someone like Ken Starr," Clinton said. "No one ever had to try to save people from ethnic cleansing in the Balkans, and people in Haiti from a military dictator that was murdering them, and all the other problems I dealt with, while every day an entire apparatus was devoted to destroying him."

The former president said he would go to his grave at peace that, while he had personal failings, he never lied to the American people about his job as president.

Clinton added that he doesn't care about what his detractors think about him. Jennings then said it seemed to him that Clinton did care.

The former president responded, "You don't want to go here, Peter. You don't want to go here. Not after what you people did and the way you, your network, what you did with Kenneth Starr. The way your people repeated every, little sleazy thing he leaked. No one has any idea what that's like."

LOL, he just lied there.

We must be the same age.

I don't remember seeing Hillary back then, though I learned after the Clintons came on the national scene that she was on the impeachment staff.

I recall Mo Dean sitting behind her husband as he testified.

Clinton has no reason to complain about the way the media treated him. The let him off easy.

Exactly. Clinton (and more recently, in the same way, Kerry) got mad when the media gets pushed to the point where they basically have to mention the bare bones of a story that is going on. In no way did the media ever get on his case about it. It was all about the strategy of helping him get out of his sorry predicament.

They covered for his numerous (yes, numerous, Billy Boy) lies and misdeeds, but only in the sketchiest of ways before they'd hasten to inform us that "The American people" did not care and out would come the latest poll. There was nothing they couldn't help explain away after ignoring it as long as possible.

Yet still, Clinton (and Kerry) seethe that the subject ever gets brought up at all.

Yes, the old legacy is being written all right.

RE your post 117 -- I have to admit that until watching the video you linked, I figured you were just dreaming, suggesting that Clinton's bit today with Peter Jennings was just an act. But this video ... wow. You may be right. This video also helps me to understand how it is that so many people have been "charmed" by Clinton. Thanks for posting the link.

"Bitter" doesn't begin to describe how angry he was. He raised his finger to Jennings like he did with his original Monica denial. He was so angry his hand was shaking. Since he's had his heart surgery, he's looked like death warmed over. Actually, he's kind of pathetic--giant bags under his eyes; giant nose; shrunken, skinny face. Monica types probably hardly give him a second look these days.

Poor Peter Jennings looked scared for a minute when Clinton lit into him. He'd better be careful. Someone may slash his tires and abduct his cat. Or maybe he'll end up as another Arkancide. Nobody crosses ol' Bill and gets away with it.

Clinton is clearly bitter knowing his "legacy" has been tarnished by his reputation as a lying sleaze.

So true. It didn't help that this interview was on the heels of the debacle of an opening ceremony for the liebrary. What with everyone murmuring about whether it might be a sign from Above and such.

Oh wow.....I just saw this clip on O'Reilly! If you are still up, watch it at 11 p.m.

I caught it on O'Reilly earlier, but I think it was best showcased on Brit Hume's "Special Report" at 6. Charles Krauthammer's comments (being the "resident psychiatrist" on the panel) about the Toon's interview with Jennings were absolutely priceless! That segment will run again tonight at around 12:40am or so.

Don't forget the time Clinton lackey Sid Blumenthal testified before the grand jury, then came outside and flat out lied to the press about what he had been asked. Of course when the truth came out it was a long time afterwards and no one cared.

When Jennings was told by Clinton: "you don't want to go here Perer, you don't want to go here". I wished Peter would have said: "why, will you have me killed????"

DFU SONG: Play Me (the Sinkmaster's shrink) 7-26-02
DFU SONG PARODIES ^ | 7-2002 | Lyrics, Doug from Upland

Posted on 07/26/2002 12:24:17 AM PDT by doug from upland

MIDI - PLAY ME

I enjoyed my eight years of lying…but these days I'm all alone and crying
I need more sleaze…so help me please…and save me

I really had fun with those little interns
It was always funny when they got their rug burns
Oh, I want that still…what is this pill…you gave me

What do you think…you are my shrink…now my life stinks…I miss my sink…save me

It was great keeping leaders waiting…she played cigars…I was masturbating
Without a hitch…of course, the *itch…forgave me

What do you think…you are my shrink…now my life stinks…I miss my sink…save me

(musical break)

In those good times my lust wasn't stopping and when I had wanted my pants were dropping and
From their kneepad view…I always knew…they craved me

What do you think…you are my shrink…now my life stinks…I miss my sink…save me

What do you think…you are my shrink…now my life stinks…I miss my sink…s-a-a-a-a-a-ve me-e-e

Hi Siegfried. I don't know why I watched either. Kinda like a car wreck I suppose. Clinton came off like a psycho. I was dumbfounded. I couldn't believe that they'd air that segment. It was cut short, I'm sure. NewsMaxx had a transcript of part of the exchange. (Bill 'Captain Queeg' Clinton Threatens Peter Jennings) It was truly amazing.

I'd say that President Bush has dealt with ethnic cleansing of the Kurds, and liberating the Iraqi's from a murderous dictator and the media has been hell bent on destroying him since before the 2000 election.

If President Bush is lacking a Ken Starr nemesis it is due to the fact that President Bush has more respect for First Lady Laura Bush and the White House than the cum-spot kid could ever hope to attain. jmo
