Is this Tony Harnden an imbedded reporter - if not where would he get these quotes?

As Clint said to his sidekick who wanted to bury the dead guys in the Outlaw Josie Wales, "the buzzards gotta eat too"

"..even if their commanders have portrayed the enemy as these bastards, knuckleheads or even Satan."
Outrageous. We should refer to the enemy that we intend to kill as "the beloved", or "the innocents", or "our good friends that mean us no harm".

Was that before or after he spit on the dog's head?

Television footage of what appears to be a US marine shooting an unarmed insurgent, as he lay wounded in a mosque where he had been fighting, could well undermine what moral superiority America still enjoys in Arab eyes. Those who recoil in self righteous distain at suggestions that someone drag that POS freelance photographer/blogger Kevin Stiles behind a building somewhere & 'educate' him, save it. Our guys will surely suffer for his lust of celebrity. POS.

"But the insurgents knew the attack was coming and most of the leadership, and perhaps thousands of foot soldiers, got out. Insurgents have a survival instinct so when faced with overwhelming odds they run, said Lt Col Pete Newell, the shaven-headed, softly spoken CO of 2-2. They wont engage in a battle that they cant win. That would be the end of the insurgency."
So one has to ask if thosr 1600 that were killed were the stupid ones, easily duped into a suicide mission, or the best they had trying to extract a huge price from the Marines.
My guess is that these were the best of the street fighters they had, and also the most die-hard belivers, and two groups escaped: The Zarkowi type leaders, and a large group of less fanatic and more poorly trained thugs who were unemployed and looking for something to do.
The elusiveness of the insergents suggests that allowing them time to make the city their own allowed them to learn every alley and escape route. Thats what 6 months of delay cost us.
The story points out that taking over a city like Falluja does require the consent of the residents, who otherwise could just drop a dime on these terrorists. I think that will not likely happen very often again.

Good post -- I think this is the best article I've read from Fallujah.

Fallujah has been devastated. Rather than risk the lives of soldiers bursting into houses where insurgents might be lying in wait with rocket-propelled grenades and AK-47s, wherever possible US forces have been blowing the building up first.Fine by me. We're just gonna help them rebuild anyway; prolly something better than they had.

Stupid title for such a great article. (I know that's the original title)
The cat was the least significant thing in the article.
