At home, I am far enough inland. But we spend our week-ends at the beach in Delaware and we fish, boat, swim in the area where the ocean meets the Delaware Bay approx. 100 miles downstream.
The Delaware River was, contrary to popular belief; becoming much cleaner in the past few years. There were fish and wildlife in the area that were thriving. This happened adjacent to the Heinz wildlife marsh area in Pennsylvania; which has egrets, blue heron, bald eagles, ducks, etc. This story is already being deep-sixed. It was about the 6th story down on the ABC local web-site, after stories about the rainy weather. The devastating effects of this spill will last for years to come. I plan to give a call to the Bird Rescue center in Wilmington, to see if they are looking for volunteers.
I don't think the story is deep sixed any longer. It made the front page of the Asbury park Press, the Monmouth/Ocean county rag.
I am amazed how 30,000 gallons overnight turns into 430,000 gallons.
