Here's what Dr. Laura had to say about the subject today.
From something I read elsewhere a couple weeks ago, I believe this is the President's plan. He was also for it in TX when he was governor.

I hope that Specter is the chairman of the judiciary committee. That would insure his support for Bush's selections. If Specter isn't the chairman, he's going to be a thorn in the flesh of the GOP. Specter is also a big supporter of tort reform, and that is very important.

Delay's problems stem from a crazy partisan district attorney in Texas that is trying to undermine the GOP leadership in the House. It's a precaution, and a good one, too.

I just checked here on FR and there have been a number of threads on the topic of the mental health screenings. Just type "children mental health screening" into the topic search box and prepare to be upset. I am livid and the more I read the angrier I get.

I posted to that thread previously. Specter was called a moderate on abortion rights; a "L"iberal abortion rights advocate does what? Yes, Specter did say he wouldn't block a pro life candidate on that basis. WHAT BASIS WILL HE USE? If Specter avoids strict constitutionalists for the first nominee, possibly the Supreme Court, we have chaos and the GOP looses a lot of voters. Bork Specter now!

Another poster on the aforementioned thread stated:"In politics, if you don't feel it in your guts, prepare to get kicked in the nuts." There is no need to prepare for that at this time if we follow our instinct.

You make a valid counter point. If not the chair, what will Specter do? I'll ask another question, why did BUSH campaign for him against Toomey? BUSH must have it all thought out. Perhaps the verbal assault against BUSH's nominees was agreed previously. If Specter Borked BUSH, can't Frist place Specter on another Committee? Yes, Specter will revolt, but he can be informed that he will get nothing through that he wants if he acts so. It is called politics and Specter has not played it right now, or is there an agreement behind the scenes on Specters verbal stupidity?

September 7 The American tradition of parents deciding what is best for their children is, yet again, under attack. The pharmaceutical industry has convinced President Bush to support mandatory mental-health screening for every child in America, including preschool children, and the industry is now working to convince Congress as well."

Yes, GWB was for "Guest Workers" and Congress explained the facts of life to him on that bill. Let us hope Congress guides the poor lad through this one too. In spite of himself, GWB is being made to look good by the Congress and his advisers. Chaney is a smart man.

Kind of makes you wonder what ticket Bush ran on sometimes. PING me when this one rolls and I'll ride on the bus with you.

We've seen the Demoncrat party slide deep into Communist doctrine, and the Redpublican party has drifted further left with each passing year. My party has deserted true GOP conservative values, but where else is there for us to go?

I've been encouraged to find here a group of people who still cling with me to the real Grand Old Party, not the neo-party it has evolved into.

As FReepers it is our calling to restore the party to conservatism once again; to champion the original intent of our beloved Constitution. That is why I've changed my tagline since the election.

May God be with us all, for though there are far greater perils on the horizon than Arlen Specter, or where our fruit comes from, we must win each fight one at a time.

I live in a strawberry haven and I know the Mexican families that pick the crops. I also know they live more healthy lives here and I welcome them.

Great post IMHO. Even if a label on a piece of fruit isn't a big deal, it is an item that has to be fought. Yes, the political ideals have shifted, and I feel like a dinosaur, but I'll keep fighting for my America as long as I can.

By way of example, my wife was an "old" Democrat, Truman, J F Kennedy and to some degree Zell Miller Democrat. But partial birth abortion is a barbaric practice that turns her stomach as does using abortion as a matter of birth control. She (white) marched for civil rights and did time in a Mississippi jail; unlike todays "civil rights" agitators who self aggrandize themselves for political and monetary reasons. But because the Democratic Party left her, I convinced her to vote BUSH, here in FL, in 2K. She was wowed that her vote counted!

We both agree that the Dems are closer to the Communist position of the 1960s and the Republicans are like the Democrats of old. She is happy, but I need a Conservative Party to come out in the middle.

"I live in a strawberry haven and I know the Mexican families that pick the crops. I also know they live more healthy lives here and I welcome them."...

I welcome them too, IF they are here legally and in accordance with all laws. IF they are here illegally, then I do not welcome them. Permission to allow them to stay is against the law - so which laws have meaning enters the fray. There is the affect on those who chose to enter legally, taxes, education, welfare and other impact that diminishes or totally negates any value added. Yes, they may add value for a greedy farmer, but not to America.

I also believe illegal workers work for less than standard American wages. They thus reduce the value of the American workers just as slavery not only demeaned the value of the slaves' work, but also of the freeman. If we need guest workers, why are better jobs being shipped out of the country?

Well if Frist follows through and allows the Senate to go nuclear on judicial filibusters, Specter might not be much of a threat.

I detest Spector, always have, but what is the point of blaming the GOP for what he says or does? Why not put the responsibility on him? This is just ridiculous, and as soon as the election was over, up came all of these threads bashing the President and the party.

The GOP is also in the process of knocking out the requirement to label foreign grown fruits, etc., as to country of origin.

Presuming this is an accurate portrayal of the facts, will someone explain why this is a step in the right direction?

Thank you, Henchman. I am happy for your wife finding a new political home, but we are still out in the cold. If we can't make any headway in the Republican party, how would the "Freedom Party" hit you? J.R. could be Chairman. I think the name has fantastic appeal.

You are wrong. Conservatives are better suited by having Specter as chairmen after being chastised and forced to give commitment that he will support Bush judicial candidates than they are by preventing Specter from taking the chairmenship and having him on the outside and possibly taking Snow, CHaffee, and others to vote no on judicial candidates.

On Delay, he has not done anything wrong. There is a politically biased prosecutor in Travis County Tx that is threatening to indict Delay only because he knows that would force Delay from this leadership role, not because Delay committed any crime. This same prosecutor indicted Senator Kay Baily Hutchinson during the time she was making her first Senate run. He later dismissed all charges.

Pat Buchanan is right

Pitchfork Pat is and always has been an idiot. He has gone so far right he ended up over on the left with the Dean folks ... pro-labor, anti-trade, anti-war.
