War is Ugly!

Who is responsible for these embedded reporters and do they not have review of what leaves the field of battle?

Look at me! I get to hang out with Marines!

Look at me! I had to sleep in the dirt to do my job! I'm as studly as warriors!

Look at my pictures! I'm even in many of them!

I even made a blog so people could read more about me! And read MY stories! Sometimes they're even about me!

Me! Me!! ME!!!

This guy might be an "active war correspondent", but he's also an active douchebag.

If I were Sites I think I would ask for a stateside job from here on lest he gets what surely many men on the ground wouldn't mind happening to such a fine journalist. Of course it would have to be an enemy round fired from an enemy rifle but I think that could plausibly happen.

Please understand why our Marine killed the Iraqi.
He had every right to. Sites should be ashamed to show his face in public.

Whose side is this guy on? I say since he's helping Al Qaeda so much we should let them have him.

It would have been much better for him to simply destroy that footage.

NBC says that they intentionally didn't disclose the identity of the marine, yet they provided the unedited footage for Al Jazeera to show.

Thank's for the link, which I'll repost below. The news coverage has been despicable, but I don't see anything on his blog that would indicate he's in any way anti-military. An interesting poem he posted on the Taking Falluja . http://www.kevinsites.net/

The Sheepdogs

Most humans truly are like sheep
Wanting nothing more than peace to keep
To graze, grow fat and raise their young,
Sweet taste of clover on the tongue.
Their lives serene upon Life’s farm,
They sense no threat nor fear no harm.
On verdant meadows, they forage free
With naught to fear, with naught to flee.
They pay their sheepdogs little heed
For there is no threat; there is no need.

To the flock, sheepdog’s are mysteries,
Roaming watchful round the peripheries.
These fang-toothed creatures bark, they roar
With the fetid reek of the carnivore,
Too like the wolf of legends told,
To be amongst our docile fold.
Who needs sheepdogs? What good are they?
They have no use, not in this day.
Lock them away, out of our sight
We have no need of their fierce might.

But sudden in their midst a beast
Has come to kill, has come to feast
The wolves attack; they give no warning
Upon that calm September morning
They slash and kill with frenzied glee
Their passive helpless enemy
Who had no clue the wolves were there
Far roaming from their Eastern lair.
Then from the carnage, from the rout,
Comes the cry, “Turn the sheepdogs out!”

Thus is our nature but too our plight
To keep our dogs on leashes tight
And live a life of illusive bliss
Hearing not the beast, his growl, his hiss.
Until he has us by the throat,
We pay no heed; we take no note.
Not until he strikes us at our core
Will we unleash the Dogs of War
Only having felt the wolf pack’s wrath
Do we loose the sheepdogs on its path.
And the wolves will learn what we’ve shown before;
We love our sheep, we Dogs of War.

The Media has their new Abu Grab as the video of the Marine shooting an Iraqi Insurgent in a Mosque hit's the world's airwaves via such 'unbiased' reporting from Reuters and AP. The embedded 'journalist' with the unit, NBC's Kevin Sites, who seems to be a hero of sorts among the anti-war left, reported the story here. On the surface the report and the video look pretty damning. However down at the bottom of the report you read: "At the same time the incident was taking place in the mosque, a U.S. Marine was killed and five others were wounded when the booby-trapped body of a dead insurgent exploded. The judge advocate general heading the investigation of the mosque incident, Lt. Col. Bob Miller, told NBC News that depending on the evidence, it could be reasonable to conclude that the Marine was acting in self-defense. The policy of the rules of engagement authorize the Marines to use force when presented with a hostile act or hostile intent, he said. So they would have to be using force in self-defense, yes. But Miller added: Enemy combatants in this case, insurgents who don¹t pose a threat would not be considered a hostile." Mr. Sites has a blog where he has been chronicling his exploits while embedded with the Marines. Apparently, Mr. Sites got censored by CNN in the past. From my experience, it looks like they were concerned with his "hot-dogging". From his blog entry at the time: Dear readers: I've been asked to suspend my war blogging for awhile. But I don't want let you down -- I'm chronicling the events of my war experiences, the same as I always have, and hope to come to agreement with CNN in the near future to make them available to you in some shape or form, perhaps on this site. In the meantime, thanks for participating in this remarkable forum. It's been a remarkable experience to be your witness here. - Kevin Sites I'm not questioning Mr. Site's motives, but the timing of this report has me suspicious. I have learned, and so did we all with RaThEr-GaTe that an ambitious journalist with an agenda is a dangerous person, although you may note that many journalists have a an agenda. Yet when that agenda undercuts the safety and motivations of our people in uniform, expect this vet to rant. It is widely believed that Uncle Walter Cronkite turned the Vietnam War by portraying the Tet Offensive as a failure, when it was in fact a major victory. Commentary is fine, rewriting history is journalistic malfeasance. I find this excerpt from a Kevin Sites war-blog telling: "It is strange to me that it is not so much pity that I feel while I am videotaping them (speaking of captured insurgents), painting them green with my infrared light on my camera, but recognition. I know the position they are in, the dread they feel to be bound and awash in the indecipherable language of your captors, to feel your mouth turn as dry as the desert that surrounds you, to wonder if this will be the hour of your death -- or to wonder if the hours to come will make you wish it had been, to know that at this moment you are helpless and hopeless and that the question of whether you have any control over your own destiny has finally and irrefutably been answered." Here is a photo from his blog, showing whom - it seems - he prefers to be with? You may note that on his blog there are more pics with him and them, than with him and our soldiers.. Very telling indeed.
