Harold Camping tried to predict Christ's return, said it was supposed to be in 1989 I think.

Actually, it was 1994. My boyfriend (now husband) had a copy of the book. I got a migrane just trying to read it. Lots of numerology/kabbalah type garbage. Kind of like Algore really. Basically you throw in so much mind-numbing pyschobabble, out-of-context scripture and wierd numerical calculations. This way if you are proven wrong, you can simply claim that your audience misunderstood or misinterpreted your real position.

I can't believe the nut case still has an audience.

*chuckle*
I couldn't remember the year he claimed.
Heck, with half of his ideas out there, I'm honestly not sure how many dates he mentioned!

He gets air time on "christian famly radio wfme 94.7" out my way.
(Orange county NY, Sussex county NJ area.)

And he has his proponents.
*ugh!*

I still can't believe he's trying to prove that we're in teh middle of the tribulation right now.
It's mind blowing to contemplate his actions.
