And "can you ping some people" means I am asking them to "ping" people they know who are interested in this topic.

"Ping" is when you direct your post to them in the TO box on the REPLY page.

That would be the "TO" box on the page when you click on "POST REPLY."

It sends them a "ping" to this thread.
