>Communists agression....military intrusion against its neighbors....could pull the U.S. into a naval war in the Pacific...<

Also why are high Chinese Communist officials visiting Cuba, Brazil, Argentina of late? The last battle before it is publically announced that the U.S.A. is now owned by Communist China? (Thanks to American corporate greed!)

OTOH, our masterful submarine division is on the alert in our waters, so could China win such a skirmish?

Oh, Mr. President.......?

Personally, I think you're a troll.

The Pentagon will clear this Marine, I'm confident. We are doing the extremely hard work in Iraq to kill the insurgents, while protecting civilians, infrastructure, and building a democracy. It would not make sense for us to carpet bomb even the ratholes like Fallujah if we want Allawi to succeed. If we go to war with China, we would use primarily missiles, naval, and air attacks. No chinese ship, aircraft or soldier would reach our shores.

"Memo to self, do not invest money in China....."

Serious and funny all at the same time. I agree, try to avoid buying products from Red China wherever and whenever possible.

Bush didn't want the Taiwanese in the WOT with us in Iraq.

Had they jumped in, China would have invaded.

Capesh?

I agree, but are we prepared to go to war if let's say we wake up tomorrow and learn that one million chinese soldiers have parachuted into Taiwan? Think about it.

Not only should we be prepared to, but we have to, it's the law you know. The fact is China sees us as enemy #1, everything they do is calcualted to reduce our influence or hurt us in some way or on planning on going to war with us. And if they truly want to fight, the sooner the better because in 10-20 years they may be able to put up a decent fight with all the stolen technology they've obtained.

Don't forget about the Communist "Police Force" they just sent to Haiti...it's not hard to imagine who they are supposed to protect (read: lavalas).

Check the following link for an EXCELLENT background piece on these disturbing developments re: Hait.

>>>"Battle for Taiwan would be an amphibious assault."

What if they are already there?

What if they just fly in on commercial airlines?

What if the large number of those people in Taiwan that support merging with China go along with the program and form an internal core to help the Communist Chinese that have been infilitrating over the last 5 years?

Taiwan may just quickly surrender, rather than defend themselves and thus see massive destruction of its infrastructure.

The conditions in Taiwan are not the same as they were in the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's. There are a lot of Chinese in Taiwan (about 15 %) that came over from mainland China after World War II that are incensed over the strong rhetoric and treatment of the original Chinese in Taiwan (about 85 %). This 85 % has taken back leadership only in the last 8 years or so. The Chang Kai Shek party is out, the original Chinese are in and there's a fierce internal conflict going on.

If Taiwan surrendered, it wouldn't be nice if they had tons of sophisticated US weapons to hand over to their new masters.

We shouldn't get involved unless all of Taiwan is on the same page: fight to the death. If that's the case, then we should go back to our original deal: defense of Taiwan. Until then, we should just continue our rhetoric... and get the currencies to float to slow down the Chinese juggernaut.

Hoppy

No, it don't Capesh.

Taiwan couldn't spare 2 or 3 hundred troops? If they are such a great ally, would that not be a symbol of allegiance with us?

Oh, please Joe.

The troops aren't ready to fight on another front just yet.

It's inevitable that we're going to war with China in the near future, it's just that the timing is bad.

If China invades Taiwan...what do we do? Having them fighting alongside us in Iraq is the excuse China needs to take over.

Meanwhile, everyone keep buying the Tinkertoys made in China and keep sailing your freighters through the Panama Canal they are presently running.

I agree that Tawain & China should "work out their differnces" diplomatically. That would be the best solution.

Uh, the Chinese are Communists, and the only way you can "work out your differences" with Communists is to become a Communist yourself, or run them into the ground like Reagan did.

.

TapTheSource,

The article's author has an agenda divergent from accurately reporting the military aspects of a US-Sino Pacific Naval War.

Any such conflict would be over in less than a week, with Taiwan still independent, and ALL of Red China's naval assets at the bottom of the Taiwan Straights.

U.S. Naval Warfare Doctrine has undergone a parallel (revolutionary) change over the last ten years, complete with new techologies and ways to exploit them.

Baghdad was captured in three weeks after we invaded Iraq.

The Red-Chinese navy would barely consitute a live-fire exercise for the dominant U.S. Navy.

Despite assurances from just-resigned Secretary of State Collin Powell regarding U.S.-China relations, the second term of the administration of George W. Bush could encounter a major war in the Pacific, and is witnessing a major espionage offensive.

But but but China is our friend. The PRC was just joking when they threatened to nuke LA 4 years ago. And China’s downing of our surveillance plane over international waters in 2000 and their ensuring belligerence was no more than a little misunderstanding on both sides. And Bush apologized to the PRC anyway.

As the citizens of China experience a rising standard of living they will throw out the communists just like they tried to do in 1989.

China has a very long history and many sites of importance. Do they want to lose them in a nuclear war? China does need to be watched like Japan prior to WW2.
