Whose side will you choose?
"So what if China invades Taiwan."
I suggest you also read post #1 on the Eurasian Axis. The US becomes ever more isolated and surrounded with each new country the Eurasian Axis brings over to their side and/or conquer.
That's true. Hopefully if our CIA is worth anything they can see it coming, and we can be prepared to take action. Asia is a powder keg getting ready to blow, and we need to stabilize the middle east as fast as possible so we can be ready to face it.
Well worth reading this thread.
China and Russia.
"Does anyone remember China being mentioned once in the 2004 debates or AT ALL during the campaigns?"
Neither side like to bring up Red China, Russia, or the increasingly ominous Eurasian Alliance. It looks like it is going to be up to rank-in-file conservatives to do the heavy lifting on this extremely important issue.

"I'd rather destroy China than let them invade taiwan."
Amen! I would only add that I would like to see the Chinese COMMUNISTS destroyed regardless.
"We should start demanding from companies to do less business with China and more with other countries. Put more jobs in Mexico."
Remember the slogan during the Reagan revolution: "No Aid or Trade with Communist Countries!!!"
Oh, boy, here we go again, now with corporates (especially some on our left coast) in China. I'll just call you "TTS, the can o' worms opener." LOL!
Bill G., please get all of your goodies out of China, and put them in India. That is, unless you want BSD and Linux consultants to take all of the India business,...

All the Chicoms gotta do is surrender that number!
Then sit back and wait....
"Dear Taiwan, Hope you guys like Chinese food. Sincerely, Uncle Sam."
Unfortunate, but very possibly true. I will pray that our leaders find the courage to stand up to and expose this growing alliance for what it is.
We will never go into open war to defend Taiwan from China. The reason? Taiwan is just not 'important' enough to warrant sending thousands of US troops to fight a war with China that would have economical ramifications reverberating around the world! And if you look at the actions of both the Clinton and Bush administrations you will notice that is one thing they both agree 100% on.
China has carte blanche to do nigh anything they want (not anything, but nigh anything), and when they go after Taiwan the most Taipei should expect from the US is satellite reconnaisance but nothing more.
It will be up to Taiwan to protect itself (unless Taipei can pull of an economic miracle and become an economic lodestone like China is .....apparently. Unless Taiwan can do that then any confrontation with Beijing will not be receiving any tangible support for Uncle Sam).
And people expect the US will rush in and fend off the Chinese in a valiant bid to protect freedom and democracy in Taiwan. Noble ideal, but not to the politicians and corporations that profit in a myriad of ways from China.
Taiwan better have viable stratagems that viably tackle the possibility of Taiwan being solo when China decides to cross the strait. Because the US will only offer basic help, and the nations in Taiwans periphery (ranging from Singapore to Japan to even Australia) will just sit on their hands. The best chances for taiwan would be Japan (it has probably the second best navy in the world after the US, and it is also a target in China's eyes) but ol' nippon will probably sit this one out (after all why should it risk itself for Taiwan? That may sound selfish, but look at it from Japan's perspective. They would probably just spend the time buffing up their own capabilities rather than spending them on the defense of Taiwan). India is a potent anti-China nation that would have an impact, but India's geo-political influence is too far from Taiwan (and like Japan they probably wouldn't do a thing even if they were closer).
nick,
I agree that Tawain & China should "work out their differnces" diplomatically. That would be the best solution. However, if China decides it can't wait for that and invades, I'm all for destroying every one of their ships, planes, silos, and military bases.
Are you sure you want that question answered?
RE: China's ability to compromise nearly every citizen of Taiwan, including the highest ranking military and governmental personnel, raises alarming questions concerning Beijing's espionage capabilities directed against other opponents, including the United States.
Anyone with the slightist doubt about this needs to know the following. Ever since the "thaw" in the 1980s, which allowed US business to, initially, start up operations in the PRC, and ultimately, hire H1Bs and L1As who are PRC nationals, PRC nationals have increasingly been allowed to access the critical data and documantation systems at US based corporations. Also, let us not forget that many public sector databases are managed by private firms. What this means, is that PRC nationals have, and have had for quite a long time, access to extremely senstive private info on a large number of people in the US. Now, I must ask, how easy or difficult would it have been to embed operatives amongst all those H1Bs and L1As?
You've got that right! It's only a matter of time before they confiscate and nationalize them (as Stalin did when he wrapped up Lenin's NEP deception).
Only a matter of time.
Acquiescence to the Fascist Chinese breeds further contempt and aggression by the Fascist Chinese.
We unfortunately learned a somewhat similar lesson after the Klintoon/Les Aspin debacle in Somalia in 1992.
Let me ask you a question as well. What if, in 1940, when Hitler attacked the UK, the US were to have just turned our heads and said it is a local affair between European peoples but differences politically.
I mean so what? AS opposed if we were to fight the Nazis on the UK's behalf.
Idiot
I think you misunderestimate President Bush. He said he would defend Tawain and I believe him. Perhaps its one good reason for Mr. Powell's departure.
