Nixon is the contender. He has been very successful as AG in the state. He easily wins re-election every time. Carnahan will barely be in office when the campaign begins. She has NEVER HELD elective office before being elected 15 days ago to MO SOS. I don't feel she will be a factor.
Senator Talent has been in the House as well as in the Senate. He easily beat Jean Carnahan for Senate in 2000. Missourians on both sides of the aisle like Jim Talent. I think Nixon will have an uphill battle, the MO GOP isn't going to roll over easily

Are you sure you're not thinking of some other race? In 2002, Talent just barely beat Jean Carnahan, 50-49. Only 22,000 votes separated the two candidates.
