As I said on that other thread which was pulled, this is part of a concerted effort by the left to attack the GOP and "out" prominent conservatives, regardless if there is any basis of truth or not. They've been talking up this campaign on DU a lot lately.
As "iamprofamilyvalues" name implies, it is a manipulative strike at what the clueless left believes motives conservatives, based on the latest erroneous media narrative. The left will never understand that what we care about is positions, not biographies or personalities.
Most conservatives wouldn't care even if it was true that Mehlman was gay. What the thinking conservative cares about is whether he wants to tear down mainstream culture and traditional society to rebuild it as a playground for the radical fringe.
They just don't get it.
