This after I had to suffer through my economics professor singing the praises of British and Canadian socialized medicine. Don't worry, I got up and left the class after a few minutes. I couldn't take it any longer.
I'm on an "orphan" prescription that's not available in Canada. Costs me only $33/mo to pay it out of the pocket in the USA. If you're outside of the bell curve, you're screwed.
I don't know why we think it's a better idea or more fair to give 1 million people $1's worth of aspirin than to spend 1 million on one person with cancer. If there's to be any government assistance, it should only be for people who truly need it (cancer, rare disorders, etc) when the free market truly cannot handle it by itself. Everything else should be handled privately.
