the klan in the 1980's? The had stopped being a real force several decades before then. Yeah there were in the 80's and still is the occaisional 20 aging beer bellies that show up and protest surrounded by hundreds of anti klan activists. I suppose this is what is meant by "anti-klan" struggle!

I recall a Klan meeting announcement in north Missouri years ago. Three guys showed up. Two were from the FBI and one was an off-duty Highway Patrolman.

You see, everything before 1998 is "back in the day." They don't teach actual American history anymore, leading a younger newswoman to say to me one day that 1964 was the "nadir in American racial relations." Told that it was actually the high-water mark to that point and for at least another decade, she replied, "You don't know what you're talking about."
