ANTI-CHRISTIAN BIGOTRY EXPLODES AT VILLAGE VOICE
Catholic League president William Donohue called attention today to the anti-Christian explosion under way at the Village Voice:
*The day after the election, James Ridgeway confessed, The dream has become a nightmare. By that he meant the dream of a secular, liberal democracy. Why? Because, he said, the Christians are stronger than ever. On 11-16, Ridgeway blasted the self-absorbed, selfish Christians who take sanctimonious pride in wrapping themselves in the banners of the civil rights movement, missionary work abroad, giving old clothes to single mothers, etc. He then blamed Christians for not challenging the Klan in the 1980s, noting it is Jews who fight racism outside the South.
*On 11-15, Sharon Lerner warned of an army of bloodthirsty archconservatives who constitute the pro- life movement. So bad are things for the pro-abortionists that she says, the sky could really fall. She makes it clear that it is the Christians she fears.
*On 11-16, Sydney H. Schanberg wondered aloud if the election meant were having a second Civil War. Though he doubts we are, he nonetheless concludes that theres a feel of holy-war fever in America. He also makes it clear that it is the Christians he fears.
*On 11-16, Michael Feingold shows hes crashed: The spoliation of our national forests by Bush-based economic interests, joined with the accelerated melting of the polar cap will bring on what must surely be an increasing parade of natural disasters, pandemics, outbreaks of disease . He warns that as the sun gets more dangerous, the air less breathable, the water less drinkable, the hurricanes more frequent, even the rich will suffer. How did this happen? He says, this is the election in which American Christianity destroyed itself. Today the church is no longer a religion but a tacky political lobby . Indeed, Christianity as currently preached and practiced in Middle America is virtually Satan, by the standards of anyone who strives to follow the teachings of Jesus.
NOTE: It would behoove the 85 percent of Americans who are Christian not to treat this outburst of anti- Christian bigotry lightly.

" hurricanes more frequent"
I knew the hurricanes were Bush's fault.
Ok, reason and rationality time.
You said:
"If you insert "Repug" for "Gay" and "christian morality" for "(insert class distinction here)", and it stillreads right..... it's bigoted."
Exactly what do you mean by the word "bigoted"?
Here's what my Webster's Seventh New Collegiate Dictionary (1965) says it means:
"So obstinately attached to a creed, opinion, or practice as to be illiberal or intolerant."
Try bigot:
"One obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his own church, party, belief, or opinion."
Note the prominence of the descriptive terms "intolerantly" and "obstinately". Those words indicate someone attached to their own narrow viewpoint without regard to the truth of the matter.
Now which side does that describe, "gay" rights pushers, or conservatives?
Schanberg? Lerner? Feingold? If these folks don't like it here, perhaps they should get back on the Hamburg-Amerika Line boat wot brought them here.
I hope you are right, at least in this nation. I look at how Europe has fallen away and it gives me the chills.
Sounds like the area around VV quarters should be considered a biohazard area and require a MOPP suit for safe travel.
It is clear that the use of the miracle drug, Trinoasitol is lacking.

Two differences between European and American Christianity.
First, European Christianity has been in decline at least since the Enlightenment. True, it has seen revivals, but their faith has also been somewhat more tied to institutions (the Catholic Church, the state) than ours has. Part of the brilliance of the Founders was NOT tying the church to the state in the US. American Christianity has had to earn it's place in our society by basically competing for a voice. It has been subjected to many of the same free market principles that businesses have had to deal with. As a result, people have "bought in" to their faith. They've literally taken ownership of it. And when people own something they are usually less likely to simply give it up when the government comes calling.
The other difference is that European Christianity has truly been the Frog in the Kettle. (If you don't know what that means let me know.) For most of the 20th Century Christianity in Europe has been in decline. With a few exceptions like Nazi Germany, there has not been any violent threat against the church. Instead, the decline has been largely due to the European populace putting more and more faith in the state to provide for their needs. At the same they've rejected the spiritual as a myth and a cause of past problems which they somehow believe they have overcome.
Don't get me wrong. I know that it's a lot more complicated than that. I also know that American Christianity is not exactly healthy today. But OVER THE COURSE OF CHRISTIAN HISTORY when the church has been faced with real oppression, it has always risen to the occassion and grown. China is an excellent example. When Christian missionaries were kicked out of the country in the middle part of the 20th century they were worried that their flock (then estimated at around 20 million people) would be obliterated. When they returned after Mao Christianity in China had grown by leaps and bounds, and some estimates show that 25% of the chines population may now be Christian. The same is true of Africa.
Remember, GOD is in control. He will never leave us nor forsake us.
Thank you for your post, it's given me alot to think about.

Re: The quote in Post 24: Where did you get that quote? ("We shall sodomize your sons....")
bumpity uppity
Psa 2:1 Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?
Psa 2:2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his anointed, saying,
Psa 2:3 "Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us."
Psa 2:4 He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision.
Psa 2:5 Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying,
Psa 2:6 "As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill."
Psa 2:7 I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to me, "You are my Son; today I have begotten you.
Psa 2:8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.
Psa 2:9 You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel."
Psa 2:10 Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth.
Psa 2:11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Psa 2:12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
