I'm not suggesting radical egalitarianism, OR gentle persuasion... I fully support a muscular use of American force in the ME, and of our intelligence capabilities in rooting out the extremists at home and abroad.

That sounds nice in principle, but could you support it in practice? One thing history tells us about islam is, by in large, it will break, but it won't bend.

That you've uncritically bought into the canard that Israel has any bearing on moslem behaviour whatsoever, thoughout history and throughout the world, still makes me wonder if you understand beating them on the battlefield is not enough.

Well, I support what we have done so far, though I am very worried about the final outcome. I don't claim to have all the answers, but I do feel that we have to find some common ground with at least a major segment of the muslim population, a proposition that I hope is possible.

And yes, I still maintain the belief that Muslim interaction with the US is at least partially shaped by the Isreali situation. I'm not claiming that solving it would solve the problem completely, or even that it can be solved, but I am fairly certain that a large portion of Muslims are incensed by what they percieve as injustice in Palestine, and at least some of those transfer their anger into radicalism. Of course, if I knew the answer to fixing the ME, I would be expecting a call from Stockholme any day now.
