Marine accused of wrongful shooting needs our help...
16 nov 04 | Atlanta

Posted on 11/16/2004 4:34:34 AM PST by Atlanta

I'm going to start with a communication of support of this young Marine, to the Commandant of the Marine Corps himself. Then, President Bush and my Senator/Congressman.They are going to hear from me and I have all friggin day to do it. I am so livid about this that words cannot describe. As a former Marine myself, this young "Leather" was doing what he was trained to do, adapting to unreasonable circumstances (enemy tricks) and he did exactly what I would have done and what has always been done with a fanatical enemy. If authorities hang this Marine out to dry, I will never stop raising hell and will become a point man for pulling these guys out of theater entirely...MSM is SICK. Other suggestions?

Disagree with your supposition.

By rules, regs and decency, we do not shoot wounded enemy combatants. Period.

If this young Marine did so, he was in violation of those rules and regs.... and a sense of decency. In addition, by doing so, he gives equality to those who would say it's alright to shoot wounded Americans.

Trying to now invent some story that he was a suicide bomber is foolish. No one would believe it. Heck, you don't believe it, do you? There are times when you don't leave a combat-capable wounded enemy combatant behind you. By all accounts, this was not one of them.

If this young Marine screwed up, then the 99.9% of Marines who do not kill the wounded are jeopardized and shamed by his actions.

There will be an Art 31 Investigation, and we will see where it goes.

We do not need any false jingoism about him being hung out to dry. He apparently screwed up. He got caught.

If he was already dead, what is the problem with another bullet?

There is no such thing as an innocent terrorist. I heard that word applied to this "dead" victim this morning on Fox. That's right, he was referred to as a terrorist. They have a history of bobby-trapping themselves or others.

I'm certainly NOT going to sit in the comfort of my leather chair behind my computer screen, and sit in judgment of this young marine. He did what he needed to do. JMHO

I agree with OP. This is more of the same 1960's anti Vietnam war tactics manipluations spun by the biased liberal media ho's. War is not fun, it is not pretty, it is not precise, it certainly NEVER WAS FAIR! Our military aren't expected to go into terroristic style combat zones with mind reading abilities, or as split second Dr. Phil moderating gurus. But you will notice what little to no time the biased media continues to give or ignore regarding civilian beheadings or the positives given to middle east women and children due to American soldiers efforts.

My email to Mr. Sites:

SUBJECT: Ernie Pyle and You

Have you written/videotaped any stories about terrorists pretending to surrender and then shooting at Marines? ...or about wounded terrorists trying to kill Marines? ...or about Marines killed or wounded by booby trapped wounded or dead terrorists? Or are you just trying to make a name for youself? You are a perfect example of why more and more people just keep tuning out to the networks and tuning in to other sources of news. You give no context or perspective at all. You are a disgrace to the legacy of Ernie Pyle.

Not only should Kevin Sites be condemned for this disgusting report, but NBC should also be e-mailed and called. We have to take it all the way to the top and prevent the MSM from aiding the enemy. Even if we were to stop this reporter, there are a hundred more ready to step in his shoes. NBC, CBS, ABC, etc., have to be reminded that they are ultimately responsible for what they choose to put on the air!

So Sites, turned the tape over to Reuters and didn't know (care) what Reuters would do with it? Something doesn't add up with that.

Sites should be nervous. But backpedaling won't help now since an investigation with possible prosecution will have to occur. That's the reality he's created.

Is this guy still embedded?

If he is, nothing a little "fragging" wouldn't handle.

The Marine that shot the wounded man had no reason to believe that the man was unarmed. He could just as well have had a gun underneath his robes and not been wounded at all. How on earth was the Marine supposed to know? He did the right thing and I would have done the same thing. That Marine's priority is his safety and the safety of his fellow soldiers. As far as he was concerned, the wounded man was an enemy combatant and could have been a booby trap.

It really bothers me that the media is getting so upset about this (although it doesn't surprise me). This guy was an enemy and who knows how many American soldiers he wounded or killed!

I'll tell you something else--that NBC cameraman and whichever reporter is embedded with him isn't getting anymore on-camera interviews from those guys. They might as well turn off their microphones and go home. No more scoops for you.

In battle there are two errors you can make, the first is to aloud yourself to be shot, and the second is to shoot someone who should not have been shot. The line between the two is hair thin.
If you watch the video, you here a voice shouting in the background, "he's faking, he's facking.", This is a sound of alarm and implies the terrorist was still a threat. In my mind the Marine is in the right.

It seems that the Marines at the spot did not know those who they shot dead were captured terrorists by the US Armed Force that entered the mosque earlier. This factor would indicate the Marines might have shot these terrorists dead without the information they were captured, and misjudge that the terrorist was about to attack or detonate an explosive. In this case, it is more likely the Marines shot the terrorist for self defense.

This is the same reporter who was bad-mouthing the troops on Day 1 of the Fallujah clean-up. Someone put a choke on him, please. Where was he when our people were hanging from bridges and being beheaded???????

Unless you've been in a war (and I haven't) and know what it's like to have people trying to kill you at every moment (this soldier was wounded a few days ago), who is anyone to criticize this young patriot's actions. I will write my Congressman.
