Tolerance Harder to Come By in Netherlands

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands — Following the death of a controversial filmmaker by Islamic fundamentalists, violence is gripping the Netherlands – a small country of 16 million people.

Theo Van Gogh (search), whose latest movie denounced the treatment of women in Muslim countries, was slain Nov. 2 in Amsterdam. His throat was slit and a note attached to a knife shoved in his chest threatened “jihad” against the Dutch government.

Officials arrested an alleged Islamic extremist in connection with the slaying. The suspect is part of what officials describe as a 1,000-member international terror cell with ties to Usama bin Laden (search).

The religious tensions in this normally tolerant country have resulted in the bombing and vandalism of more than 20 mosques and churches around the Netherlands (search).

The Dutch prime minister paid a visit to a mosque to try to calm ethnic tensions. Six percent of the country’s population is from Muslim countries but the problem isn’t necessarily coming from the newcomers.

Some here think twice about the country’s open-door immigration policies and acceptance of foreigners.

“From the 60s in the Netherlands, we have seen we were almost too tolerant. We accepted almost everything here in Holland,” said Gerard Van As, a member of Parliament. “They call the Netherlands almost a breeding place for criminal organizations.”

The Dutch should use whatever means are neccesary to throw the extremist Muslims out, and close off their borders to further immigrants. This suicidal policy of open borders has invited an invasion of barbarians.

It must be kept in mind that all Dutch males, as with Germans, are military trained.

I hope the Muslims keep it up in these countries.

I guess they think this is a good ethnic group to antagonize.

I hadn't thought of this, the forced conscription does train all the men for combat. It could serve a good purpose here.

Officials confirm that the Dutch Secret Service, the agency in charge of investigating terrorism, has been infiltrated by at least one Islamic extremist. The agent was said to be recruited after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States in a rush to bring in Arabic speakers.

Uh-oh. Remember how the Kerry campaign accused Bush of not having enough Arabic speakers in the FBI & CIA to translate documents, etc? The FBI said it was because of the lengthy vetting process--which now looks like a real good call!

I hope to see this headline in my future: Tolerance Harder To Come By In The USA. It's time we speak up and straighten out some of the leftists in this country before they PC us into the shape Holland is in now. We have let the inmates run the asylum long enough.

People are sick of being treated like crap in their own country by immigrants and they're sick of being told by their govt. that they have to submit. What's even more infuriating is that their govt. is telling them that they have to give in to crazy muslim behavior or else they might do something crazy.

It was only a matter of time before this was going to happen. I for one am sick and tired of seeing societies that support terrorists treated with the kid gloves because they're oppressed and they might do something crazy.

As usual, it's the good guys who go down first.

It would give me a grim satisfaction to see this happen to enemies of the United States, like the French (yes they are, don't argue the obvious), but the Dutch are good folks. I hope they can put a lid on this.
