I would be grateful for anything. If every Freeper who reads this, and sends in a couple dollars, I will make up the $8900 that I owe or so, plus the extra in taxes I will have to pay because this is not tax deductible, this has to be considered income.
Please bump this to everyone you know.
If you know anyone who is a columnist, please encourage them to write something on this.
This accusation is a totally false accusation, and several Freepers were there to witness this event, and they have volunteered to testify on my behalf, along with town counsel persons in local government in that area.
I have had this lawsuit over my head for 3 years now, andit is based on a lie. I never grabbed this man's throat as he claims. And now, I have to pay out thousands of dollars to make the lawsuit go away with either a signed release or a victory in court. And Victory is not guaranteed in any court these days for a Conservative...
I'll help you Race. Hope you get enough to countersue the RAT!
bump for later help
bttt
Gifts are not taxable
Countersue and sue for court costs. You have the facts, witnesses, and photos on your side.
Have you thought about contacting Michael Savage? He has helped out by publicizing other conservatives, police, etc. that have been falsely accused. It might be worth a shot.
Oh Race, I didn't know this was happening! Why didn't you ask sooner? You've been bearing this all by yourself? I'll have a check in the mail tomorrow! You have my prayers & support. I wish I was an attorney & I'd take your case pro bono! Any freeper lawyers that can help?
Please check with your lawyer as to whether there's any way to set up a fund for you with $$ going directly to the lawyer, thus avoiding a tax bill for you,
Why can't it be considered a gift? Everybody put your contribution in a birthday card! lol
Don't you have homeowners insurance and an umbrella policy?
plus the extra in taxes I will have to pay because this is not tax deductible, this has to be considered income
We're allowed to give up to $11,000 (I think that's the present limit) tax-free as gifts. I think this should be considered a gift, in which case, no taxes apply.
I thought gifts under $10,000 were tax free???
As I posted earlier, I'm sending money. And you'll probably need more than the $8900 because the case goes on.
It's true that the cost of the suit is not tax-deductable. However, whether the contributions are taxable income to you is a separate question. Generally, gifts to an individual are not considered to be income for tax purposes. They are not subject to income tax and are subject to gift tax only when a person gives more than several thousand dollars to any other person.
I'm not an expert. Maybe there is a special rule that makes it taxable when you ask for contributions? At any rate, before you list contributions as income, you should check with a tax advisor unless you already have done so.
Keep up the good work Race. My check is going out today.
I can't make a donation. But I do owe you a birthday present, cuz. Okay?
What did the police say during discovery?
Did media film the event?
Maybe if we research all the members of the Greater New Haven Clergy Association and write them with sincere letters of shame, the other "reverends" will put some pressure on him to drop it.
I'll drop you some. Can you counter sue or threaten to counter sue for slander?
Did the plaintiff also file charges with the police? Have depositions been taken? That much in legal bills should really amount to something significant. There is also the possibility of counter-suing.
Better check with a tax preparer on that, Race. Any monies recieved as a gift are not subject to tax, especially if it is received in small amounts. I wouldn't declare one damn dime of it as unearned income. No one here is going to fill out a 1099 on it, so how is the Infernal Revenue Service going to know?
