Sometimes the guards have a vested interest in keeping the prisoners at eachother's throats. I really do think there's an urgent need for reform. I used to attend a church that did prison ministry with Chuck Colson. If I was a warden, I'd absolutely ban the muslim religion AND all it's wacky permutations in the Nation of Islam, Five Percenters,etc. Nothing else works but christian ministry in prison. If that sounds intolerant, I apologize but it's true.

I agree with you, but I don't think a ban on the NOI would hold up in court, unless you could show that in a particular prison, they were a criminal conspiracy, and even then, you'd better have shopped for a moderate-to-conservative judge. The Fice Percenters are seasier, because they themselves deny that they are a religion. Meanwhile, the ACLU insists that the Five Percenters be treated as a religion in prison, which tells you erverything you ever wanted to know about the ACLU.
