MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- A third political party forming in West Virginia is only in its infancy but offers "the truly conservative person" a voice and a choice, its organizers said Monday.
The Constitution Party advocates a smaller, less intrusive federal government that operates within the strict framework of the U.S. Constitution and "its foundation in Biblical law."
"I guess we're what you would call the ultraconservatives," said Secretary Brenda Donnellan, a Lewis County resident.
The Constitution Party, which plans to petition for ballot access in the coming year, supports the death penalty and a patient's right to sue doctors and insurers but opposes abortion, gay rights and gambling. It urges abolition of several federal agencies and rejects U.S. participation in international trade, environmental and political organizations, including the United Nations.
The Constitution Party began in 1992 as a coalition of state parties that formed the U.S. Taxpayers Party, then changed its name in 1999. It was on the ballot in 37 states this year and claims to be the nation's fastest-growing third party.

You sound like a whiny, divisive, little left wing weenie. Which you probably are.
I've been thinking about it.
Can you show us how they are both anti-Jew and anti-Israel?
Agreed. Form as a sub group of the GPP and sign up members. That way one doesn't have to "leave" the GOP to join. Equals more members and more clout when they approach the GOP leadership on their issues.
This is all about vanity, just like Nader.
How can you say they have done a good job? Passing IOU's out to the tune of trillions upon trillions of dollars worth of debt and calling it "our duty", a public school system that can only be described as a leftist indoctrination camp, a radical judicial system, no borders, using the U.N. as a tool to usurp freedoms, no, neither party has much to brag about.
The only position I've seen them put forth, with regard to Israel, is that the U.S. shouldn't intervene.
They done fairly well all things considered...and far better then any fringe third party ever has.
third parties allow disasters like bill clinton to win, however attractive their platform.
Keep in mind, but their own admission in two press releases, the LP was actively campaigning in the close battleground states to deny President Bush reelection.
Change from within...that's what I've been trying to do.
But the people who run the party are still old-school anti-Jewish pre-World War II rightwing types.

That is down right out spooky.
They can do a heck of alot better and it's up to the voters to hold their feet to the fire. As with the nomination of Specter to the judicial committee.
Hope you have made your phone call.
Serious question. Are they truly anti Jewish or do they just appear that way because of their isolationist ideas?
Probably a Demcoratic Front Organization designed to whittle down the Republican vote.
Their position seems pretty consisent with the islamofacists, doesn't it?
No. Islamofacists want them destroyed and that is a far cry from intervention or isolationism. Sounds more like some people are trying to malign the CP. jmo
I guess the Democrats figured out a way to keep themselves in power in West Virginia, divide and conquer.
The founders intended for citizens to hold their government in watchful suspicion lest government become a "wild fire" out of control, so I don't diss any group, except liberals who want government to be an unconstrained wild fire.
I believe in trying to influence government in any way my limited means allows, from phone calls to faxes they should hear from us on issues ranging from the appointment of Specter to the FTAA treaty to our relationship with the U.N..
