Nevada or bust

LOWER COSTS, EASIER LIFESTYLE

By Sam Diaz

RENO - Vic Monia spends a leisurely 20 minutes behind the wheel of a bright yellow Hummer, commuting between his spanking new factory and 4,000-square-foot home in a gated golf course community overlooking Reno.

The days of fighting traffic between his San Jose assembly plant and a home in Saratoga are only memories. So are the high costs and headaches that led him to move his business to Nevada.

Monia relocated Momar Industries to Reno earlier this year after 22 years in San Jose. The move was essentially lock, stock and barrel: Monia brought 37 of his 45 employees and a dozen family members with him to Nevada.

``This was once a vibrant place, alive with people.''

Someday they will be saying that about California.

Here in Vegas my property tax went up about 30% in one year.

Seems our well kept secret is out of the bag. With the announcement of MGM Mirage building their 'urban metropolis' I can see it now the throngs of people, not only vacationing here but moving here for jobs.

Back to the drawing board again to plot out freeway systems and interchanges.

you still have lots of desert yet not occupied! I am looking forward to all the libs moving from California so all us conservatives can turn it back into a decent state. First thing we need to do is get rid of AHHHH-nold. The only thing good about California now is the climate. If I could afford to get out I would. Probably will within a year actually. Hello Nevada!!!!

As people are making a max exodus for Vegas, I often wonder if they ever consider that Las Vegas is a desert and has no long term water source. I lived in Las Vegas for several years in the late 80's, Lake Mead is just about dry now. Glad to be here in the NW now. We welcome all conservatives with open arms, always hoping to turn our beautiful state into a red state. It seems however that the gay liberal left are moving here in droves.

This article is so one-sided! Doesn't point out any of the things "good" Californians would find deeply offensive --- like being one of the red states.
Why, the religeous fanatics are so active here it is hard to believe: they rang bells all over Reno two days before the election to remind people to go out and vote for Bush. I think Californians, particularly the liberal ones, would be much happier in, say, British Columbia...

This whole article is a leftist, the world-is-gonna-die-from-poluution, wet-dream.

Reno is not much cheaper than the Bay Area. It's been this way for several years due to the fact that so many Californians have moved there.

This is the promise of capitalism full-filled.

Now the tax adavntages are something else.

Reno is not much cheaper than the Bay Area.

How much would I have to spend for a newer 2500SF 4 BR home in a low crime neighborhood 20 minutes commute from the center of SF or San Jose?

In Reno, there are loads of options under $300k. In the Bay Area, I'd expect prices to be double that.
