Iran Agrees to Suspend Uranium Enrichment

By GEORGE JAHN, Associated Press Writer

VIENNA, Austria - Iran has agreed to fully suspend uranium enrichment and linked activities that Washington asserts are part of a nuclear weapons program, diplomats said Sunday.

The diplomats told The Associated Press the Iranians apparently dropped earlier demands to modify a tentative deal worked out last weekend with European negotiators and had agreed to the conditions.

"Basically it's a full suspension," one of the diplomats said on condition of anonymity.

However, the diplomat said Iran had not yet fulfilled a key part of the deal — formally informing the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency of its decision and asking for agency inspectors to police adherence to its commitment.

"They have yet to see it in writing," he said, alluding to the International Atomic Energy Agency, which is based in Vienna. "Details are important, so they have to see it."

As negotiators for France, Germany and Britain struggled with their Iranian counterparts to bridge differences over the weekend, the IAEA delayed a report on Iran's nuclear activities scheduled for limited circulation.

A diplomat familiar with the IAEA said the delay was meant to give the two sides a chance to resolve the dispute and allow agency head Mohamed ElBaradei to include an Iranian commitment to full suspension of uranium enrichment and related activities in his report.

That report was now expected to be circulated Monday.

We can trust the Iranians like we trusted North Korea.

And just as America's actions had nothing to do with Libya dropping its weapons programs, so too does this reflect only the good will of Iran.

(Do I need to point out I am being sarcastic?)

North Korea should be next..

We need to "kick up the heat" over there..
( They'll need it this winter )

Specifically, we need to monitor, and if necessary, blockade all shipping coming in or going out of North Korea..
Anything "weapons related" should be confiscated, along with the ship it rode in on..

If there is no progress in meeting our demands, cut all humanitarian aid..
( I know, the people will suffer, not the tyrants. It's time the people there KILL the tyrants.. Maybe this will give them the incentive.. )
A winter without food can work wonders on attitude..

...or a Bush second term.

What might he do now that he does not have to seek re-election again?

"Funny what a little kick ass in Falluja will do."

Actually, I think this has more to do with a little "kick Kerry ass" than Falluja. Talks had been totally stalled UNTIL news of Bush's electoral victory was broadcast. ALL OF A SUDDEN, progress was made. Can you say "good cop, bad cop"??

I doubt that that is the case. As I understood it, their effort was barely getting ready to start. North Korea, OTOH!!!
