It is possible however that Goss and his people are too heavy-handed and are unnecessarily antagonizing some of the good people.
Pincus needs his sources.
Seems as though Goss is approaching this in exactly the right way.
And this is a perfect example of the leaky CIA..One wrote a book for heavens sake.
A new broom sweeps clean.
We only have four years.
I only hope they move as fast on the tax problem.
BTW, will Goss be the new Dim bogeyman for the next four years now that Ashcroft is leaving?
So if Goss purges all the senior personnel, from where will he obtain experienced replacements?
We should look at those soldiers that are serving right now and pick the cream of the crop and ask them to join the CIA. And have it influxed with new blood.
The fact that these guys would leak this suggests why Goss doesn't trust them.
Memo to Disgruntled Staff: Taking Your issues with the boss to the Washington Post is unlikely to get you extra booze in the Christmas egg nog.
PPS: Those of you CIA guys who are "old timers" need to accept how much your mindset prevented the US from being prepared for the "new times"
Goss has to clear out the hornet's nest, but the press will paint him as the bad guy regardless. The WaPo has many friends and sources that will be ejected from the agency, and they are pissed about it.
Besides, he's a liberal ass-wipe. And I think we have enough of that.
HOW DO WE KNOW THIS?
BECAUSE THE MSM IS SCREAMING MAD ABOUT IT.
Way to go Goss!
Cut off the head and the tail stops wagging (to the NYT and WaPo).
No. Goss is no idiot. Just the fact that these "senior CIA officials" have leaked this info to the WP says a lot about them.
Can them all, Porter. The CIA needs a significant cleaning out.
It is a recurring myth that what Goss is doing is getting rid of Clinton people. Anyone who came on board during the Clinton era would not have enough seniority to be a significan player in the CIA. Presidents appoint the DCI who then brings in a few of his own outsiders. These outsiders invariably leave when the DCI leaves. The people Goss is most likely going after are people he is familiar with from his days on the House Intelligence Committee. The CIA needs a dramatic reorganization and Goss is most likely going after anyone he thinks is not going to support the changes. Furthermore, many staffers in the CIA were openly critical of Bush after the Iraq invasion and while everyone is entitled to their opinion, they have no right to air their complaints outside of proper channels.
This is a Pincus article--he sees dire consequences in anything the Bush admin does. Maybe Goss is simply taking out the garbage.
He's just taking out the trash. Running scumbag liberals from positions requiring a security clearance is never popular. If they're so upset about being out of a job, give them jobs cleaning toilets and mopping floors in non-secure areas.
I hope he boots "Annonymous" out on his sorry ass.
The good people are probably very happy that the deadwood
is going.
This opening sentence says a lot.
WHY have these "four former deputy directors of operations" come forward to "offer Goss advice" apparently before Goss even asked for their advice? I am suspicious of their motives right from the start and I guess Goss is, too.
