I am reposting what was said in this forum by another poster that to me expresses everything that neesds to be said.

"It would be a grave mistake to only treat these Jihadi attacks as a law enforcement issue to be dealt with after the fact, or even as an intelligence issue to follow avowed extremists and extremist groups. The problem is that the vast majority of Muslims will be outwardly peaceful while harboring an intense hatred of anything non-Muslim. There will always be jihadists coming out of nowhere to perpetrate barbarism on the rest of society. As Islam grows the attacks will grow worse until they feel strong enough to come out in mass to impose Shari'a on everyone. That is the model devised by Mohammad in Mecca and Medina - small atrocities by a core cadre while building a following and then sudden violent takeover.

If the idea is to protect people from Muslim violence, the target must be Islam as a whole. The scriptures of Islam provide the basis for violence against non-Muslims to promote Islam as well as against Muslims as an enforcement mechanism within Islam. Islam should be regarded as an ideological movement rather than a religious one. Even though intenally it has a religious dimension, the important point for non-Muslims is that its aim is not merely a way of life for adherents or even conversion, but control of every aspect of life for Muslims and non-Muslims alike. And while most Muslims may never commit a violent act in their lives, a society of Muslims will always breed and include an enforcement cadre that can only be checked and removed by eliminating all of Islam or reducing it to isolated individuals. Any large group of Muslims inevitably contains a dangerous core that takes the teachings of Islam in their totality more seriously than most."

"We must ask ourselves if we have not been naive over the past few years—ask ourselves if we have not for so long agreed to take in anybody [as immigrants]," said Dutch Justice Minister Rita Verdonk last week. "We Dutch are easy prey," says Jon Wolter Wabeke, a senior judge in Amsterdam. "We're vulnerable because we're a soft, tolerant society."

You have a point however I beg to differ in some respects. I think this is because I have known many Muslims personally. The ones I have met are of a liberal variety. They came to the US to get away from the crap in the Middle East. They hated it there and wanted to be free. They are happy to be here and have assimilated. The wanted to be free from shira law and the horrid repression of women. They also want to hang on to their faith. No, they are not the total picture. The test needs to be that if Muslims immigrate they must accept a Western philosophy. They must accept a Western justice system. If they don't want to do that then they need to be sent back. The Muslim faith has more variety that is seen on the surface. They are much like Christians in that way. Some are liberal, some are not. Not all Muslims believe in things like honor killing. A lot of how Muslims view the West has to do with the amount of education they have. The more ignorant they are the more they fall prey to the fundamentalists. Sadly the number of uneducated Muslims far outweighs those that are educated. That is exactly where the fundamentalists want to keep them. They are the ones they can get to strap on explosives for Allah.
