How many Americans can afford to homeschool? Most Americans require two incomes to maintain a middle class lifestyle. Homeschooling applies to a very small and very affluent segment of the population. Homeschool thusly may be the answer for some families - it is not for the rest.

That's a legitimate problem. I work days and my wife works part-time nights and weekends. But still, it's impossible for some people.

For those who are on the border financially, think about how much having sane, well-behaved children, free of peer influences, will be worth to you, especially in the long run.

Homeschooling, like many things in life, is a choice. It is not for everyone as public school is not for everyone. Homeschooling is a life style choice as much as an educational choice. It involves a lot of consideration and a commitment to live within your means. But then again so does getting married and raising children.

At homeschooling meetings and get-togethers that I have been to I see a mix of people but I do not see a lot of very rich or very well off people. Homeschooling almost always means that one parent stays home to teach the children. This involves a life style choice.

Yes, the property taxes do not go away if you own a home. Money is tighter generally on one income. Maybe there is no boat or no snowmobile or no jet-ski or no cabin by the lake. I grew up with out all of these things and so did almost all of my friends.

Homeschooling is simply a matter of choices. My experience is that you do not have to be wealthy or even well off to make that choice.

I did not go beyond #8, so maybe someone else has beat me to it.

Give me a break! At the peak of our homeschooling we were a family of seven and lived on one income in a very nice upper middle class subdivision. You are what you decide to be as far as economics go. We made the decision long ago to live on my income as we felt it was more important for our children to have a good home education than it was for us to keep up with the Jones family. We attended the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University and as far as money goes, we are heads and shoulders above the rest. You just have to do it and leave it in God's hands. He will manage it for you.
